Push is finally MINE ;-) But questions/problems arise
Ok, finally I managed to get my Push, and I have to say it is quite beautiful!
But as with all new things there are a few questions I have and problems that arose. I hope some of you can help.
The first one is a big one: I have my drums on a drumrack and have programmed a loop that is playing nicely. Now I hit the track change button to get to another track, while the drum clip is playing. All the sudden I get a short, very audible stutter of the drum clip. I hope this is just a wrong setting or something, because like this it couldn't possibly be used live!
Any of you experienced anything like this?

Congrats! Push is amazing
I haven't had exactly that problem, but I can get a short crackle when adding or deleting steps in the drum sequencer.
Usually, increasing latency will help. Strange cause this doesn't happen in the melodic step sequencer.

I doesn't sound like a crackle from CPU spikes, more like the clip is pausing or slowing for a few ms.interceptor wrote:Congrats! Push is amazing

I also wonder how it could be latency. Doesn't latency mean that a note or message that is entered from outside, doesn't appear instantly? That's not what is happening here, the notes are already in the clip in Live, and were playing nicely befor the track change message got entered. I could live with the track change not being instantaneous, but not with my drum loop going off beat for an instant.
But I do notice that the meters are pausing for the same short instant, hm...

Re: Push is finally MINE ;-) But questions/problems arise
Ok, I'm trying to go to the root of the problem:
The same behaviour happens, when I change tracks with the mouse. But only while Push is powered on. As soon as I turn it off, changing the track with the mouse is instantaneous and no clip slowdown happens.
It's like Push slows down my computer...Something is wonky. I also notice that the pad lights only manage to update fast enough for 1/8 notes, but stay lit for continuous 16th. Could someone confirm this?!
Maybe I set up something wrong, or my computer is too old?!

Yep its an issue.
I assume it is because of the data Live sends Push on the fly. There appears to be a stutter when switching between tracks. I get the same thing but not as bad with my MCU connected. Not sure if the launchpad even makes a difference but there probably needs to be some optimizations around this.
Possibly a bigger audio buffer may help? I don't play in a live setup so really am not bothered by the short stutter but for a live performer I could see that as being unacceptable.

I wish I had known this before. I will try to contact Ableton about this and I rarely do, but this is important.jestermgee wrote:Yep its an issue.

I wonder though if the audio buffer should even be involved. I'm not even adding new musical/audio information to the system, I'm just changing the track to control. Besides it does only produce this when I change the track, not when I actually do something on the other track while entering midi notes or changing parameters.

Buffer may just hold enough audio content to continue streaming while a data dump occurs to the Push. It probably wont but if it is an issue where the application upsets the flow of audio data to the buffer while it sends data out to an EXT device then it may help. Try increase to 1024 and see if it helps at all.
There was mention of this last year:

But strange thing is that I don't believe this was ever an issue with the APC40. We need more people to keep bringing it to their attention.

I always worked in the box with my on board core audio so I never paid attention to this, but my buffer was already at 2048 samples. So I doubt any more would help. BTW does this also happen when you use another script like the PXT Live ones?!jestermgee wrote:Buffer may just hold enough audio content to continue streaming while a data dump occurs to the Push. And no neither the Launchpad nor using the Nocturn with STC and the Launchpad lead to this.
I'm also wondering why it keeps happening even if I change the track with the mouse and to an empty track. The amount of data send shouldn't be that high in this case. Anyways, I'll contact Ableton tomorrow.

Re: Push is finally MINE ;-) But questions/problems arise
i read on the beta forum that the problem stems from Push switching record-arm instantly, which can cause glitches when 'reduce latency when monitoring' option is on (or off?). haven't looked into it myself yet but might be worth a look...

Interesting. I will try that!garyboozy wrote:i read on the beta forum that the problem stems from Push switching record-arm instantly, which can cause glitches when 'reduce latency when monitoring' option is on (or off?). haven't looked into it myself yet but might be worth a look...

OK: Thank you very, very much. This solved it. It has to be turned off. Now there is no short stutter anymore when the track is changed! I'm so relieved!
This was starting to overshadow my great joy of finally having Push. Now with this out of the way, the joy is back
They should have pointed that out in the manual though!

Yeah it's one of these cases where the forum really comes through! The Finn wrote:Awesome
I didn't actually contact Ableton support yet, but I wonder if they would have told me this solution or rather suggested to uninstall ClyphX
BTW: Did you get your audio cut out problem solved?!
