Export to audio too loud ( noticeable distortion)..

Thanks for reading.. What am I doing wrong?

I did a dj mix set using live .. 10 tracks.. Vanilla simple : track a to b to c etc..
The individual track level barely clip at red.. When mixing in the next track it understandably clips red but the goes away when the next tracks is in..

I lower the volume of the master track so the master track is not red..
Note these are 5 to 7 minute tracks from beatport etc..

So when I export and burn to cd it sounds really "annoying" loud..
Let me explain .. On my car CD player any standard dance music cd sounds loud and undistorted at around the 32 mark.. These are store bought cd's.. But mine I raise the volume past 26 and distortion starts to kick in.. Things sound muffled .,



What should I be doing to have this not happen ?

leave the master at 0 and lower the volumes of the other tracks so the master isn't clipping when you're mixing between songs

Stick a limiter on the master bus.
Use the Live cross fader and/or at cross fade using EQs so that you dont have both tracks playing at full level across the spectrum (bass cut one of them over transition for eg).

I was going to suggest a DJing for dummies book, but a quick scan suggests they are mostly written by idiots with little thought of actually mixing transitions, just how to beat match etc.
