converting audio files to MIDI files on Macs
Is there a plugin or does Live 5 convert audio files into MIDI files on OS X Tiger? Is this possible? Imagine the possibilities!

Under os 9 you can use opcose studio vision to convert monophon lines to midi..generictwin wrote:Is there a plugin or does Live 5 convert audio files into MIDI files on OS X Tiger? Is this possible? Imagine the possibilities!
It works very well...
There are a few audio-midi converters for Windows, haven't seen a dedicated app for mac that does this. Friend of mine tried putting some terrible death metal through one of these converters and it did manage to pick out lines of piano and guitar from within the track and most of the drums.

well basically what i would like to do is take a line in audio signal and have some application interpret it as a polyphonic MIDI file. I think this would somewhat "missinterpret" it in interesting ways that i can manipulate and reproccess in new ways. There are apps out there that do this but i'm having trouble finding one for OS 10! These apps are meant to take in a singing voice or trumpet/guitar or something. I would like to put in other weirder sounds.

I think the possibility of converting audio to midi is definitely there, generictwin, although windows has more options than mac in that regard. But I don't think it would be possible to do this from a line-in signal, ie in real time. The PC versions I've seen take while to analyse the audio and output it as a midi file.
