test.pcm and testout.pcm

Post by pjkemp » Mon May 12, 2003 5:20 pm

I have the m-audio audiophile USB and the included live delta 1.5 running on windows xp. 1 Ghz, 512 MB memory.

when I enable ASIO in live delta, the program starts writing two files test.pcm and testout.pcm on the root of my C: drive. these files keep growing without bound and eventually cause the system to crash.

How do I prevent this from happening?

Thanks in advance.

Hi pjkemp,

I don't think that there's a way to disable it from the user side. Probably just M-Audio can turn it off with a new driver.
Please see also my posting in http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3454

drivers are the problem

Post by pjkemp » Tue May 13, 2003 12:40 am

i managed to install the .1 drivers instead of the latest and the files are not created by that driver.

I was also able to generate the files with the cakewalk sonar demo BTW.

As a followup test I tried to record one side of an LP. Unfortunately live 1.5 hung the whole computer after about 10 minutes.

I was using low latency with the Audiophile control panel.

I have lot's of disk space > 5 GB and 512 MB memory.

I think there must be a bug in live 1.5 for long session recording..

Ableton, comments??

Hi pjkemp,

recording in version 1.5.2 was definitively less efficient as in version 2 but it should not hang the computer. To say more about that point I had to test it again in this version but I cannot guarantee to find the time.

drivers fixed but live still does not work....

Post by pjkemp » Fri Jun 06, 2003 4:23 am

so m-audio released a new driver today which fixes the ASIO debug files (*.pcm in c:|) problem.

so i merrily loaded an album on my turntable and and cranked up live delta expecting to be able to record my lp to a wav stream...

NOT!!!!!!

live promptly ate up all of 512 MB of ram and crashed my system...

so I am convinced that this s/w does not work....

is dangerous to my system's health.... and

m-audio has been hoodwinked into supplying a faulty version of s/w

all with the intent of trying to sell folks the new version of live at an unreasonable price just to get the features extolled by m-audio and abletron...

i'm not a happy customer...

any comments from the s/w guys????
