I am getting ready to replace my old studio mixer (Carvin 16 channel 4 buss mixer bought new in 1986) due to electronics starting to frizzle out and not looking to put any money into the unit, and am looking for some feedback regarding a new mixer. I run Echo Audio's Layla 3G (8 analog ins and outs - 4 digital ins and outs), MX8 Midi Patchbay, M-Audio 4x4 midi interface and Alesis RA-100 amp, through Behringer Truth passive monitors. PC is water-cooled i7 950 OC'ed to 3.8gHz, 12GB RAM with three 128GB SSDs and 10K RPM 2 TB drive for storage. Any ideas on mixers? Favorites? Ones to stay away from? Things to consider?
Thanks for any advice/suggestions...

Home Studio Mixer Suggestions
Re: Home Studio Mixer Suggestions
Mackie Onyx 1640i - 16-channel Mixer/FireWire Interface with 16 Onyx Preamps, Perkins EQ, and 24-bit/96kHz Audio I/O.
Their stuff is transparent, and bulletproof.

Re: Home Studio Mixer Suggestions
I currently have a Mackie 14ch analogue mixer feeding inty my Presonus Firebox both have been very reliable.
I have long considered replacing the lot with a Presonus Studio Live mixer. Seems like a nice option with plenty of IO and features.

Ignore the Onyx suggestion -- it doesn't sound like you need another sound card at this time, and firewire is quickly dying...
Depends what you need and your budget... you want to DJ, look around for a Xone92... you want a THRU, go to a pawn shop with the idea of spending a couple hours and test stuff out... otherwise, been using a Mackie VLZ4 over here last few months... iz clean, simple... EQs suck, but I'm just using it as a THRU to bring all my real world together (sound card, synth, mic, external effects boxes). Seems like there's a boat-load of headroom on this bad-boy, too... doesn't sound great when overdriven, but who really wants to play around above +12db anyway? 0_o (I keep it at 0db myself...)
My actual mixer is Live, so all I really want, anyway, is something to pass stuff around in the physical world. If you want to do the same, just get a simple analog box. Keep your soundcards, controllers, mixers SEPARATE for interchangeability -- expansion and reduction.
