MPC Slicer
MPC Slicer
OK… seeing if this can be done. Searched through a bunch of topics and couldn't find anything clear
I've setup a default 'MPC-SLICER' as described a bunch of places.
- Drum Rack with a Simpler on one pad
- Macros assigned to: start, length, attack, release, etc…
Slice to Midi works with the 'MPC-SLICER' as expected. The problem is the macros affect ALL the pads.
SO if I fine-tune PAD1 start position/length... Go to PAD2 and do the same it moves what I just did on PAD1.
Is there a way to have the macros work ONLY on the selected pad? Seems like there would have to be because the macros would become useless if they affected all pads in a rack as one.
Closest post I could find was this, but don't think there was a solution: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=110547
thanks

Re: MPC Slicer
I have two kind of wacky ideas. You'd have to be desperate.
1. Use Simpler and do not assign those parameters to macros. Live 9 lets you select the last pad you hit with the blue hand. Once the blue hand is controlling that device, you control it's parameters with knobs. This will only work if your midi device is set up as a Control Surface to control a selected device. From there, the two control method types are the bank method, which gives several banks of pages of 8 controllable parameters, or the 'Best of' method, designed for controllers which do not have bank select. The latter might, if memory serves me, include sample start-end.
2. Use Sampler instead, and set it so you can control sample start end end values via some odd modulation parameter. This method would probably be just as much of a pain in the ass as the first.
I'm sure that other people have better advice. I'd suggest beginning method 1, learning about how to implement it, learning the limitations. And then re-evaluating your plan based on the new info. If you give it a start I'll be happy to answer any further questions.
Tip: if you open Live's Help window, there is a 'control surface reference' link which shows you different midi controllers, but also a list of how parameters are premapped in Live for devices with blue hand functionality.

Thanks yur2die4.
I also saw this which I'll have to try tonight when I get home: http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/ableton- ... leton-live
Similar process but instead of dropping Simpler on a pad direct uses an instrument rack and each rack has it's own macro controls. Not sure but will give it a shot.
Don't have Sampler (standard edition only).

The integration is actually quite powerful!
I'm using it with a PUSH (just got it so don't know the ins/outs) but when I setup the preset drum rack and slice to midi it works until I actually change the pad. I than have to actually
click on the HEADER bar to get the 'blue hand' back to control the macros but still left with same problem of it adjusting all the pads start points. But like I said, just learning it so probably doing something wrong.
Have to try a few things tonight. Will post if I get something to work.
Re: MPC Slicer
Don't assign macros to the drum rack macros. Macro assignments should be done to individual chain channels.
The reason I didn't recommend racking a device for slicing is because I don't recall from memory whether or not the individual macro-assigned instruments are retained for slicing.
Otherwise, if you do a simple slice, you should have access to individual rack slices from Push simply by making sure the selection button chooses the sample as opposed to the whole drum rack.
Lastly, the whole last-sample-triggered thing is not limited to Push, but was probably implemented in Live 9 to give Push that valuable capability

Re: MPC Slicer
OK.. since I'm using PUSH, the solution was to not assign macros at all (not even on the chains). If I assigned macros on the chains it did the same thing.
When slicing to midi with a LIVE built-in choice it puts slices in a drum rack with the 8 default macro settings.
I created the same rack as I was doing before this time not assigning any macros so PUSH displays all of the Simpler's parameters. For me it's all I need and now can access each pad and change parameters of each without affecting the others.
thanks for responses.
