Rev and Inv Midi clips on Push?

Post by ambientidm » Sun Mar 30, 2014 5:49 pm

I am surprised there is no option to activate the reverse and invert functions of midi clips on Push or I am missing something. Seems like it would be a simple thing to add to the clip menu.

Yes, this, along with many other seemingly easy and obvious things to implement, they decided not to. It's just ... I don't really know what to say.

Perhaps all of these omissions are purposeful, so as to justify a Push 2.

I'm not actually that cynical, but sometimes I just realise I don't know shit about business or anything.

yeah like how you can't scroll past eight controls up top when in note mode
you have to go into session mode to do that

If not, then that's the reason right there.
If yes, then maybe someone like nativeKontrol could be persuaded to implement it, if enough people want it.
They actually listen to there users....;-)
That's a bit harsh TomViolenz! :o NativeKontrol are a tiny outfit in comparison not subject to the policies and internal dynamics of a large org such as ableton. If ableton actually implemented every user request that has been made for push the immediacy of the device would be buried in code and likely hardly as usable as it is right now.

I think back (almost a year now) when I first got push, and how as soon as it was out of the box how easy it was to get something going and it's still able to do this. Had push shipped with pxt as the default interface as good as the script is I bet there would be more than a few moans as to the lack of intuitive immediacy of the product. Or looking at it another way if pxt had a device that offered one function per button/shift button we'd all be complaining how cumbersome/expensive overly complicated the device was imo.

The best thing about live and push and this community is that if someone somewhere can imagine it, it can happen! F..k bitwig and all the other daws for that matter I'm happy with it all as it is and I bet you are too, dammit!

To the op would be cool to have yes!

Yes it was  but only meant in jest 8)

I would agree that this is how it looks but if what you assume is right about more than one person developing for push then co developing alongside an already established team of coders working on the main product (for which push would be nothing without) only compounds the issues. Stray if alone, has direct communication with the testers and only has to deal with the api aspect you mention. In any case while we're making assumptions about all of this, how do know stray doesn't actually work for ableton in some way... :?:
:P

the plain fact is that it is dumb that you cant do this on push

nativekontrol is amazing but sometimes a little too fiddly
pxt is astonishing especially coming from a non ableton employed individual

For the most part the 'fiddlyness' of pxt is (as someone on this very forum rightly observed)a result of functions being accessed via buttons not labeled for such functions, making it memory intensive and initially non intuitive.(having to flip between two manuals compounds this, but as advised take it slow and don't try and digest it all in one sitting and it will become clear and eventually second nature)

Every user request for a new function on push that isn't clearly labeled moves push further into that territory imo.
Maybe the decision was/is economic maybe it's creative (max community/scripting community offering solutions) maybe it's both and others I fail to imagine. Either way I bet it isn't that difficult to implement through max.

I could well believe, that they are working on something big for the Push script at the moment, involving opening up routines and parameters to the API. But even if it is absolutely revolutionary, that doesn't excuse leaving all the low hanging fruit on the trees, which in aggregate influence the workflow greatly.

So I'm not at all saying their script is bad. It's not. And it's nice for instance to have 4 different step-sequencer aproaches available when you buy PXT in addition. I'm saying: More communication, more attention to the details and more openness about where they want to take Push!
Agreed! There has been at least some response at the beta forums but couldn't really class that as a dialog or communication. I think I've found out most about the company/developer intentions through press release and interviews. That said I didn't buy push to enter into a dialog with the company but because I figured someone cleverer than me would probably program some great stuff for the device. I'm glad I haven't been proved wrong on this!

It's not midi assignable but having a quick look at Live Object Model in max and it looks like it might be possible by using the clip object get_notes or get_selected_notes functions.
