That said, I think Bitwig will hit back pretty hard with V2.

You're right.. something's a little off when a DAW as anticipated as Bitwig debuts and it's the next version everyone's talking about.

Why does Ableton have to come out with a nice version 10. Why not improve on Live 9?

Why do people think Live is only competing with Bitwig? There are other DAWs out there.

Cuz the gotta step up their game, man! Step it up ableton........chop chop!

All joking aside, I want PDC, a popcorn maker (that uses real butter) and for push to have a way to record over a clip with the metronome pre count.

I think from a realistic perspective that getting a lot of Bitwig's features would kind of entail a rewrite of much of Live's code especially for things like PDC. The main goal of updates is bug fixes and a big rewrite would probably make Live buggy. My guess is that the reason Ableton never fixed the PDC is because their implementation is so deep in the code a good percentage of the code would need to be rewritten and rethought, which would also mean a lot of beta testing.

That said Live could still implement some of the smaller non-intrusive features in updates.

Live still also has to think about features that Bitwig don't have as well to stay ahead of the curve.

It probably would be impossible for Ableton to implement all of Bitwig's features, they just need to choose maybe a couple of the popular ones while still coming up with unique features of their own.

bitwig is great for everybody who is working on clips but then want to focus more on the arrangement view.
in live for me arrangement view allways felt messed up. allready the way an audio recording is visualised is bad:
you have a block and then you need to open another layer the see another block to finally see the waveform!
the same with midi. drawing automation curves is still a horror...
about layout: now that there is so many editing functions included also in live,
it makes SO MUCH SENSE to have this kind of classic inspector on the vertical left that bitwig has.
such a waste of space in abletons horizontal line, especially when you expand the wave or midi editor!
cutting and moving audio whitin a clip make some tasks really fast and smooth (especially because of the
bad visualisation of waveforms in lives arrangement view there is no real competition here!).
per note/ event automation makes things much faster and simpler. choosing grid resolution right down in the window is great,
layered editing is nice.. but snap to grid in arranger feels fiddely, you can easy miss the "1"

biggest downside for me at the moment is that there is no quickmapping for clips and some other stuff!
thats one of the things that makes bitwig more a classical DAW then a live tool at the moment in my opinion.
for a live show ableton stays my favorit for now..
