was thinking about getting an iriver recorder and a small discreet mic for recording walking around in NYC and wherever... any recs for a clip on (lavalier) mic that is under $150? any other tips.. i am doing this to build a sound library for background and intro sounds for my downbeat tunes...

If it's small and discrete you want...
If your mic is in fact 2 small lavalier type mics, try taping them to your headphones L on L, R on R. this works really well with ear bud type headphones - just one little bit of tape to around the 2 cables right up next to the earbud holds the mic capsules perfectly poking out of your ear.
Now your hands are free of clutter, you walk around naturally as you monitor and your recording is directional and stereo as to where you turn your head in the most natural fashion.
Its a really trippy experience. Just don't reverse the L for R etc and step under an oncoming bus from the other direction!
