I am going crazy over this....each time I record the waveform to perform the latency compensation, my recorded waveform drifts a little farther to the right. I don't change anything between recordings...it just drifts inexorably righwards on its own. This makes the entire expensive rig useless for multitracking. It took me forever to figure this out. I'm a novice musician, so my timing isnt that good to begin with.
This is on a 3ghz laptop 1 gig ram, with xp pro, running an M-OurDriversSuckButPeopleThatDon'tKnowBetterStillBuyOurStuff-Audio Audiophile USB.
I have a Mac I could try it on, if M-Audio would ever release Tiger drivers...for the last several months, their web site says
"We value your time and user experience, and want to ensure that our Tiger drivers are as robust as possible before providing them for download."
Hah. Ah haha. BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (sob)
Anybody know how I can compensate for this time drift? I'm perfectly willing to take a hammer to this M-Audio crap, but I need a reasonable replacement. The Multiface looks great, but I only don't need 8 ins and a lot of the other good stuff (could use the adat)...and its a good chunk of cash.
I can deal with huge latency...i monitor direct, but it has to be the same latency....and it would be nice if the drivers didn't bluescreen my laptop too often.
In summary I:
1.) Wanted to rant about the incomprehensable black-hole-suckage that is M-Audio. Thank you for listeneing.
2.) Was hoping somebody had navigated their way out of my predicament with a clever setting tweak, and that they might share it.
3.) Would like to know what people with a similar XP Pro laptop are using for multitracking. I basically need 2 ins and 2 outs. I can do usb or firewire. The only other requirements are that it work correctly most of the time and that what ever latency it has doesnt drift all over the place.
TIA

I just did a test recording the metronome...not only are the recordings drifting to the right, they also vary between beats by about .25ms.
