Instrument Rack headache...how would you do that ?
So, i would love to make an instrument rack loaded with simplers, in parallel. Lets call the simplers A, B,C..etc. Now i want a knob to fade from A to B, then B to C, etc.
Chain selector with fades won't work since i want to make a drone, so i'll only trig the note once and hold it down.
Help ?

Not understanding why the chain selector method won't work, you can apply fades to the chains to make the transitions smooth.

Chains don't trigger if the initial note on is off the end of the chain, if you see what I mean. I tend to always have my chains going the full 128 values and have the fades defining when they peak. Does that make sense?
There's probably a max object somewhere. In fact I know there's a monolake one which lets you switch between chains via programme change messages, which you could probably tie to a macro. This would let you have all the chains full length and not use fades, I think. Don't know as I've never tried it.

Exactly.Chains don't trigger if the initial note on is off the end of the chain
but fades are forced to be on the beginning or on the start of the chain, that's the problem. Otherwise i could make all the chains full length and draw a cascade of fades...but instrument rack doesn't allow me to do that.

Ah, I didn't realize that about note ons, sorry!

you need to make 2 racks - an instrument rack for the Simplers, followed by an effects rack:
rack up your Simpler devices so they all play at once.
add an effects rack after it, with the same number of chains as there are Simpler devices (6 Simpler chains, 6 effect rack chains).
now, on each chain in the effect rack, add a compressor with its sidechain set to receive input from the corresponding Simpler chain, and enable the 'monitor' button of the comp.
repeat for the rest of the chains, and set up your chain crossfades.
***here's one i made earlier***

Damn, this 'monitor' option in compressor allows a lot of stuff you couldn't do without. Never thought of that !

Yeah someone (Boozy) came up with a pretty good solution for comping with that trick.
Clever indeed!

pretty sure the comping trick wasnt mine, shadx312 (unless i posted it while hammered).
not seen that one, sounds cool. got a link?

Oh I think it was here a couple years ago....I do believe he had some pics to go with it, too...and I'm fairly certain it was along-timer, like Angstrom or someone.
Similar idea though. Take the inputs of audio tracks to each compressor sidechain in and fade between the audio with the chain slider...

I think I figured another workaround, without sidechain compressors. Just use the audio effect rack zones. I posted details in this feature request viewtopic.php?f=3&t=228980&p=1734163#p1734163
