5.01: Delay Compensation Bug

just found this one:

I have two audio channels running side by side, CH A and CH B. Both are set up basically default, auto, output to master out.

In CH A I am running a plugin called KarmaFX Filter. 2 instances, one set up as hipass, one set up as lowpass. For this test they are both on and both wide open, no frequencies are being cut or boosted.

In CH B I have no plugins.

When i run two identical audio files side by side in these channels for comparison - in this case a 1 bar kick drum sample - they flam against each other. Apparently the Karma filter is delaying the signal on CH A.

So i turn on delay compensation .. and all of the high frequencies are cut off both channels.

If i use the number field on the bottom of the channels to see what happens if i throw the timing off, the hi's come back. its only when they are dead on that the compensation kills the hi's

I have two audio interfaces, one m-audio 24/96 and one Tascam USB us-122. using either one, same result. WinXP SP2.

Sounds like some very tight phase differences in the two channels. It might not be a bug if its just a phase issue, i.e. one of the plugins altering the phase of the audio, as phase is different from timing. But it might also be due to the delay compensation being out by a small number of samples, causing a filtering effect when the 2 channels are summed.

This may not help, but I will try...

Delay compensation will only work if the plugin identifies to LIVE that it is delaying the audio by X milliseconds. It may be that this particular plug is not doing this...

Just a thought.

Though I could very well be wrong.
