upgrade to 5 disaster
upgrade to 5 disaster
i really love 5 and for production have completely migrated to it, but because there are a few things i am still getting used to, i still use 4 for dj'ing. i have hundreds of tracks that i spent hours and hours warp marking. but now, when i load them in from the browser, all the warp markers have vanished. this is a total disaster for me and must have something to do with upgrading to 5. does anyone have any ideas how i can get all my warp markers back without having to do all that work again?
thanks.
thanks.

just want to confirm this is a serious issue. I upgraded to LIve 5.0 last night.
Ran the analyse audio function on a folder of wavs that i had 80% warped.
They play fine in Live 5.0.
But when i switch back to Live 4.1.2 all my warp markers are now gone and Live 4.x plays them unwarped.
This is really really bad and requires backwards compatibility to be applied to Live 4.x so it can read Live 5.x .asd files.
Im sending msg to Ableton bug now.
How did this one get through QA? even the beta testers???

yes, i had saved them. if i open an old live 4 set where they are stored, they are still there with all warp markers complete, i just can't import them warped into my current live 4 dj set up. it is a total nightmare!!!!!!! the only thing i can think off to do is find every instance in an old set where i have them saved and render them as new aiffs. while not as time consuming as re warping them, it's still a right royal pain.
Hi twitch,
Yeah, nightmare... I wonder if you can locate the old .asd files for each track you had warped in live 4 and use those ? Or could you open your old sets and save as>new name, and open in L4? Or create a new L4 set and copy/paste the tracks back in from the (functioning) L4 sets? Just guessing right now, haven't even got to that bit of the L5 manual yet so can't offer help on using L5 to address this.
Just tried a quick test - changing some warp markers in a clip on L4, doing save on the clip window, and then using that clip in L5. The clip opened in 5 with the new markers. So I'm guessing you might be able to open the working L4 sets with the "good" warp markers, save the new .asd file by clicking save for each clip, and then trying to bring them into L5 and see how they play... That would take less time and agony than making new aiffs.
HTH. If you're Twitch fae optimo, keep it blastin oot on the big subby speakers. If you urny Twitch fae optimo, sorry for confusin ya...

This is not cool at all. Are you sure about this? One thing that has niggled me is live 4 and 5 are not exactly backward/forward compatible. I wouldnt use 5 for stage use yet.Cache wrote:i heard back from the Abes. And they tell me that this is the expected behavior
ie
once you 5ify a track, you will lose the warp markers if you re-open it back in 4.
not very cool

i had exactly the same problem
so i do this : live 5 - production - better than live 4
live 4 - dj - better than live 5
because:
-live 5 plays with glitches mp3's so...
-live 5 feels unstable and thin compared with the robust live 4
-it takes ages do draw waveforms and when you prepare your dj set and load about 50 tracks this is very bad...
