I have ATT. I don't know who owns them, but I have better service than some of you are describing. Oh, I pay dearly for it, but it's convenient and I get the speed I asked for.

When I move, I'm proactively looking for an area covered by RCN, the only other alternative to Comcast. Because in some places, the only other choice to Comcast is ATT which, by all accounts of people I've known who used it, is very slow and unstable DSL.
So in that sense the 2-tier system that threatens net-neutrality already exists.

I wonder what people definition of slow and unstable is

I remember modems. I consider myself blessed.

Ok, 3MBps, that doesn't account for stability, either. I guess ATT considers 6MBps the 'Elite' package (see picture above)

and 768 KBps as 'normal'. In 2014.

I'm at 768. I don't care either, I'm not downloading every crack on the internet with mommy and daddies money. My cell phone sucks too

Seriously, I have one of these:

Never sent a text message in my life. But I love me some internet chat...... (and chips and salsa) :x

I'm not downloading every crack on the internet with mommy and daddies money.
So the only reason someone needs over 1MBPS is to download cracked content and they're using mommy and daddy's money to pay for it?

I have to up/download uncompressed video via clients ftp's in order to do what they pay me to do. I'll also get other gigs where speed and reliability is absolutely essential because transferring digital assets in one form or another are SOP.

That's beyond consumer needs to stream HD video.

Btw there's an unspoken rule that Comcast caps monthly amt of data transfer at ~300gb.
That's fine if you wanna chat, not fine when you're transferring uncompressed HD media to and fro for work.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I'll all for faster internet. But one thing, they throttle back. It's always the same. Totally consistent. I'll take what I can get.

You didn't really think I only think crackheads need the downloading, did you?

No but that was the only example you gave

Another thing that can mislead people is MBps vs mbps.

Anyways, the part where he says the only thing more boring is "featuring sting" and the inviting a "dingo" to babysit your kid were the two funniest parts.

There are a number of other parts I would qualify as favorites.

FYI. Netflix has paid Verizon its extortion money which is supposed to guarantee great service for their customers.

Again, well played. :P

those would be great speeds... data traffic is typically measured in bits (little "b"), not bytes (big "B").

i had AT&T DSL for years... about 8. I switched to Comcast cable not because 6 Mbps isn't enough speed, but because it started out as $35 and gradually crept up to over $70 a month. when i asked why... the response was "your promotion ended".

:| an 8 year promotion.

i called Comcast and got "up to 25 Mbps" for about $50. it was a no brainer even with the built in disclaimer.
