Not so simple simpler

Post by milfbait » Wed Aug 10, 2005 6:34 am

I wish Ableton would make a bigger sampler, something to compete with Kontakt, that loads akai, giga, etc. I just discovered that the Simpler is pretty damn cool, I can record things and drag them right in. That's what I miss in software, see back in the days of hardware, samplers actually sampled! I sold my Akai years ago and went the software route and I really regret it, because when I had that I was really creative with sampling my own sounds and creating my own patches. As soon as I went software that magic died because you had to dick around with audio editors and shit. My style of music went from mostly sampled stuff to mostly synthesized. But you can bypass all that creativity robbing BS with Simpler, it's awesome. It has the immediacy of hardware, and the interpolation sounds good too.

Now if it only wasn't as "simple", and had multisampling, splits, layers, etc. I'd be in nirvana. I know something like that would not be free, and I'd gladly pay for it. Abes could offer it as an upgrade just like Operator.

I agree with you 100%...

I just realized the power that Simpler has and I'm pretty impressed. I wish that you could ZOOM in on the wave form for exact editing of large files (ie: MP3) and I would love it if it had a REVERSE function.

Like you said milfbait (cool name), Simpler lets you actually make music on the fly without opening an audio editor and going through all that nonsense just for a 2 second sample of something.

edit: I just realized that you CAN zoom in the wave with Simpler. I'm in heaven!

I like simpler as well it seems to be good fun to use in my opinion.
They could take it a step further and use a similar interface but make a sampler that can be used multi channels like hardware and allows you to map to different keys different samples etc.It would have to not lose any of the ease of use it has now and maybe just have more controls to manipulate the samples further.
Only a suggestion for future possible upgrade option like operator.
OK
Does anybody know if you can setup the instruments without having to bind the controls manually, like do they have default controllers assigned already?

I'd love Ableton to build a full spec sampler, I recon they'd do a mighty fine job of it.

agreed. that would be a great next add-on.

i've got an emulatorX setup (the software latest generation of the venerable emulator line of hardware samplers) ... but simpler is so dead easy to use in comparison , you can imagine which one is actually *used* more often.

all in all, i must say i do not miss my emax2... i did sample a lot of hideous noises with it.. and the EPS that got stolen.. *shakes fist*

yes yes yes ...

I am currently using Kontakt2 as my main sampler, it is very comprehensive and powerful, but as milfbait says the ease with which you can record something and drag it into Simpler is lovely. I think Simpler should be left, as it does a good job as a single sample player, and maybe create something Complexer which allows all manner of multi-sampling. routing and granular mayhem.

But before this, please fix the current issues with Live 5!

Yep do it.
As good as Kontakt2 is, a fully featured, intergrated sampler in Live would be impossible to pass up.

What about being able to route simpler into impulse

Post by boyinabox » Fri Aug 19, 2005 10:04 am

I think it would be great if you could route simpler or several simplers into impulse thus haveing a massive sampler capability.

you can route sesveral midi channelsa into one and spread accros sthe keyboard but its a bit of a pain to do.

but yes an advanced smapler would be nice and even a builtin editor just for quick sampling

I just wanted to bring this back up to the top. I'm in the market for a full-featured softsampler and if an Abelton one existied, I'd buy it in an instant. Any news? Keep up the good work, Abe!
