Re: Update LIVE 9 for RETINA !!!
+1 for a GUI that does not look like crap on a modern computer.
Re: Update LIVE 9 for RETINA !!!
i read that Apple is currently considering trying to adjust their GUI to work with Live, since Ableton doesn't give a shit.
Re: Update LIVE 9 for RETINA !!!
Can't do it anymore, had to go back to Logic Pro X. My eyes couldn't take the strain.
While I am a bit disappointed, I have to think Live will get this sorted out relatively soon. It would just make sense for them to do so.
In going back to Logic, feels like I'm breathing clean fresh air, compared to inhaling smog and filth in Live. It really is pretty remarkable how much of a difference it makes.
Well, the point has been belabored. I look forward to the day I can use Live again for more than an hour at a time and not destroy my eyesight.

As soon as I opened Live for the first time on my retina MacBook Pro, I thought my eyes must have stopped working properly! This is a big problem in my opinion.
I noticed some of the trolls have suggested that the posts on this thread might be coming from a small group of people with multiple forum accounts. I therefore figured that if Ableton can see that a number of identifiable paying customers have this problem, they'd be more likely to address it. So I sent a message to customer support to request proper compatibility with high pixel density displays.
I'm also pretty tempted to ask for a refund for my upgrade to v9. The only leverage we have is to withhold funds!

Re: Update LIVE 9 for RETINA !!!
For those following this epic thread, a few things I found to help, this on a 13" rMBP:
1. Zoom the display to 110%. It's still blurry, and you lose a bit of space, but since the text is bigger it makes it slightly easier to read.
2. Change the skin and brightness of the skin, to achieve better contrast. I find "Light Grey" at 110% brightness to help.
3. Increase brightness on your display. Yeah you'll lose battery life on a laptop, but even just a slight increase helps.
Even with these it still sucks and is blurry, but it helps.

Re: Update LIVE 9 for RETINA !!!
I am agonizing over whether or not to get a Macbook Air or Retina Macbook Pro, or just stay in the PC world for music production. This whole issue with the display is weighing on me big time.
I must join the growing chorus of voices begging Ableton to optimize their software to include a state-of-the-art display. I suspect it is a much larger lift than many think, since it has not yet been fixed. It would be great to have a formal update from Ableton about the plans to address this widely discussed issue, so that folks can make wise investments. Thanks for all your hard work to address this display issue.

It weighed on me too, as I was deciding between an Air or Retina MBP, and while I am dealing with blurry text now I know I would have really regretted it if I got an Air only to have Ableton add Retina support 6 months down the line.gtaylor916 wrote:I am agonizing over whether or not to get a Macbook Air or Retina Macbook Pro, or just stay in the PC world for music production. Apple is phasing out the non-Retina MBPs, and most rumors claim the next Air will have Retina support. So really it's just a matter of time. How much time is what remains to be seen.

iMacs will be Retina soon as well...gtaylor916 wrote: Apple is phasing out the non-Retina MBPs, and most rumors claim the next Air will have Retina support. So really it's just a matter of time. How much time is what remains to be seen.
Retina support really should be in the soon to be Live 9.2 release if you ask me, it's been long enough.

So...
Just bought a new macbookproblahblahblah. I'll add a +1 to this thread.
but, i once read a 'solution' to this, which was to run live's GUI in non retina mode. How do i do this, please ?

i right-clicked on the live app icon, and the 'open in low resolution' is checked out and greyed out.
don't tell me there's nothing to do about it ...
