When you slice material to MIDI and audio, or open REX-files, using the built-in preset — I assume others preset options too — you have individual volume control for each slice. I find these often being set too low at -12db and would prefer -8db or something like that. It's easy to change the volume in each slice.
However, it's a nuisance having to set the volume for each slice, as there easily can be 20+ slices and more. Is there a way to affect the overall volume or the volume in each slice in one move?

Make a new slice-to-midi preset. It is a fun thing to learn about

This video tutorial seem to provide a work-around that preempts the need:mikb wrote:When you slice material to MIDI and audio, or open REX-files, using the built-in preset — I assume others preset options too — you have individual volume control for each slice. I will report if it worked for me.

It sure worked out fine. However, editing your own slice-to-midi is very useful and shouldn't be missed. I found a great, somewhat dated, instruction "How to create slice to MIDI presets" by Thavius Beck at Dubspot.mikb wrote:

Once I found the proper Live 9 paths: Defaults at "/Users/[you]/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Library/Defaults/Slicing" and the place to store your own presets is "/Users/[you]/Music/Ableton/User Library/Presets/Instruments/Simpler" (or Sampler if you're using that) I could make new ones very quickly.
