M-box w/ ProTools and Live 5 don't work together?

Post by borda » Wed Aug 17, 2005 8:03 pm

I know these guys from digidesign are freaking selfish but I can't beleive I can't use protools and Live 5 together via re-wire using my m-box. It seems to that the m_box works for either one of the applications not for both at the same time. That is bad, really bad..
ANybody any idea what to do?
thanks

I run that setup. I haven't ever re-wired Live on a PT session, but I do Reason all of the time. Additionally, Live runs through my MBox just fine on its own.

What's the error?

yes Live runs through my MBox just fine on its own so does PT 6.9.. but it is either one..Cannot run both using the same intaerface9MBox). It sucks cause I want to record and mix in PT and make my looped stuff in L5. Is it a Core audio thing? I run TIGER...

it's true that whatever application is open first controls the DAE.

you know how to play live within a pt session, right? why doesn't that work for you?

i don't think i'm following your issue..

I use PT 6.9 with Live 5 just fine - When using rewiire - Live (or any other rewired application) doesn't use the audio hardware directly but it is done via rewire. You need to load live in a channel of PT... I have been working on a tune which I created mostly in Live 5 - I have Live inserted into 5 separate channels in pro tools - I designate which rewire channel to send each track so mu drum pattern is coming into channel1 via rewire channels 3 & 4, I have several synth tracks going into another PT channel on rewire channels 5&6 and so on... I also have a few Reason tracks going as well - I have each instrument connected to the audio hardware interface (or the output of the last device in the chain if there are effects in use.

Works just fine - well I should say it works - By that point the system is so taxed that I hear pops and cracks and other noises that indicate the system is overloaded ...

i also rewire Live5 into Pro-tools all the time. I record and do a lot of loop-based stuff in Live, then open PT6.9.2(with Tiger), create an AUX channel and stick a Live Rewire plug-in on it, create a new stereo track or two, set them to record the L/R mix and hit play. PT will start Live and record whatever is on the audio-in channel.

I generally mixdown all of my Live channels in Protools and do my mastering in PT using TRacks and the other RTAS plugs, then render in PT. Its all working fine. If you're still having issues let me know, I'll write up a step-by-step tonight when i'm in the studio.
