Changing individual impluse note parameters

Post by dub_narcotic » Wed Aug 17, 2005 8:17 pm

Hello all,

I am about to make the jump to Live, but have a few things to work through before I purchase.

Previously I have been working with Elektron's MachineDrum, and it allows the user to change any of the available parameters for each note hit. (ie. with a 4 beat kick drum pattern you could set the pitch slightly different on the 4th beat or have different amounts of reverb for each hit).

So is there a way in the Impulse area of Live to do the same sort of thing. I want to modify just one (or more) of the hits to be different in pitch, effects, filter amount etc... (or whatever is available). I can see that you can change the pan, volume -- but that seems to be it.

Any helps or ideas?

thanks.
mp.

If you use the various envelopes in clip or arrangement, you can do almost what you want!
Try the demo and test...

same problem here with live5.

the pitch envelope in clip view has no effect, while pan and volume envelopes work fine. it's particularily frustrating as i work entirely live with impulse, building and editing the patterns on the fly.

can someone else test a midi clip with impulse and see if the pitch envelope works for them?

thnx.

And this allows, you to change things on a per note level, not per instrument?

(the demo is at home and I'm at work, so I can't check at the moment)

All individual sample slot parameters modulate perfectly well here via clip envelopes also.
Yes even on a per-note basis.
It's the beauty of all the Live effects and Built in instruments IMHO.
The inbuilt level of parameter automation is insane.
My aren't the wings of butterflies beautiful and do they not make wonderful perturbations.....

Impulse shouldn't be the make or break thing about Live for you. There are tons of drum machine plugins available, from free to expensive.

Impulse is nice, but it isn't the feature that makes live special. It is a rather basic drum sample player that is well integrated into Live.

not only on a per note level but you can make the SAME note change each time the loop loops
so you could have a one bar loop and have the last hi hat transpose differently 4 times over four bars
