CPU Spikes of between 30-400%!!! when I select a new scene?

Why am I getting cpu spikes as high as 400%?

SO what if I used one instance of reverb and beat repeat on one track. 400%

There are five tracks on this scene. not too many of them have any effects. They are all audio. SO why is that when ever I just use beat repeat (reverb is greyed out) now I am getting spikes of at least thirty% when I select that scene?

I am so frustrated with Live 5 this week that I have been bouncing new logic cuts to Live 4.14.

None of several posts I have submitted this week have been adressed, which is reasonable, but I have rarely posted in the bugs forum before and this week I've had several.

WTF?

I'll look at all of his again in the morning. I have a performance on saturday, and it's looking pretty clear I'm gonna be using 4.

I was using Live 5 for a day and was getting massive CPU spikes with 5 and not with 4.

I've put 5 on the backburner until the first bug fix comes out. Then i'll go back and start using it.

I would advise not to use 5 for a Live show unless you're feeling lucky and or have a partner.

I was experiencing pops, crackles and usual audio glitches when trying to use 5. CPU meter was ramping up over 70% on a Pentium M 2.0ghz.

While this is not my usual laptop (temp laptop while a replacement lt is on order), i would not expect this bad performance from 5.

HI Alex,

For some reason I never saw this reply, or wasn't informed of it. I had to modify several sets in the last week to prepare for a performance I had on saturday, so I don't know if I have preserved or can recreat ethis problem. THe problem stemmed from beat repeat I think-

I will get on this, either find a set or recreate it and get back to you if I can. This problem seems to have gone a way in lieu of delayed response everytime I select a new scene.

My problem is not hot air, it was really frustrating, so hopefully I can retieve the set or recreate it. This new problem that has surfaced instead (of really glitchy scene selects) is almost as bad.

I may have modified the track too much to recreate the problem. I was using to instances of beat repeat, I instance of psp freebie reverb, and one supertrigga on scenes of 2-5 audio tracks (only a few clips were in any mode other than clip, ie complex mode). Even still, I reading 30+% usage on three audio clips (one being complex warped.) By either letting my cpu rest, or eliminating the problem accidently(?) it seems to have gone away, though I still see jump of 5-9-% cpu when I select a new clip, and the segue doesn't seem as smooth as it should. I feel that this great wealth of 2g G5 cpu shouldn't be epended on such a small row of tracks, though we always want more, don't we?

I'm gonna reboot my computer and try this with my tascam in mackie control mode now. I should have done this in the first place, as this has been eating "a lot" of my cpu to adjust the automatic faders (from Live) and may be the culprit. I should have tested this already but I thought of it while writing this post-here goes.

Well that was a bust.

Apparently when I trashed my logic preferences an hour ago I lost all recogtition of my microkontrol and tascam fw1884 in Live as well.

Im piping mad, and have errands to run before I can dare try and reinstall these evil tascam drivers. (insert teretse syndrome grunting).

Anyone have any suggestions with these?

Between Tascams evil drivers, microkontrols library, and Logic pro 7 (need I elaborate?) I am going to be in IQ-test, pavlavian hell-hole if I want to get all of this fixed before checking out Monlake in NYC is this weekend.

(insert MORE teretse syndrome grunting).

Hi Alex, I am getting a new variation of this problem now, where the spikes are only about 5-20% when selecting different scenes. However, on many of these scenes there are huge errors with volume cutting out sometimes and not even playing at others. If I remmember correctly I got the cpu to go down by turning some clips into legato, but no matter what I do, Salt and Pepa's "Push It" in mp3 format seems to be quite volatile (no hidden meaning here- I love this jam!).

I am totally down with sending you this enormous file of songs that I have legitimately paid for, but I don't know how that works out legally and I am concerned about sending you such a large file (perhaps 500mb? I have not dared self contain it at the moment as I am due for another hard drive soon-this ones pretty full: 25gb out of 233 remaining...)

I got everything to work again in my setup, tested this with the Tascam in control mode, thus the increased errors.

For desert, as I have been a hard at work DAW manual reading freak all summer, I will check out Monolake at PS1 this saturday! The perfect way to spend my last weekend before classes. Wish I could catch the friday night show, as it's in my original turf, but the PS1 setting should be great.

Also, even though I am experiencing some flakey activity, my bandmate and I each
performed a successful set (about 3 hours) without any glitches or crashes, though I have learned that there are specific things I can and cannot trust in a realtime setting:

Multiple Beatrepeats, excessively large sets, more than a few complex mode clips. I hope that no one else is having these problems.
