Ableton saw fit to include a User mode on Push and my only expectation was that the User mode would function in a similar manner to other midi controllers which have this feature and as is described in the Live 9 manual.Inversoundzzz wrote: I just think maybe you're expecting a very @Ableton oriented@ musical tool to be something it's not....you know?
"All of Push’s built-in functionality can be disabled via User Mode. This allows Push to be reprogrammed to control alternate functions in Live or other software".
The standard methods by which other manufacturers incorporate a user mode in their midi controllers is via a software editor and/or allowing changes directly from the controller (as is possible in things like the Korg padKontrol and some Akai MPDs).
Due to the price and sheer potential of Push, I don't think it unreasonable to have expected at least a half decent User mode.
Having some knowledge of what is happening "under the bonnet" when the User button is pressed does not change the accepted definition of "User mode" when applied to midi controllers. Furthermore, internal midi switching is not something that is unique to Push or of interest to most users who simply want to compose, play and record music with the minimum of hassle.
