Good TV Sci Fi Shows?!
Re: Good TV Sci Fi Shows?!
Just saw the first season of Helix, quite a bit better than I expected if you can ignore the stupid scientist mistakes. From the producer of BSG FWIW.

Sounds awefully like another zombie apocalypse show.Tarekith wrote:Just saw the first season of Helix, quite a bit better than I expected if you can ignore the stupid scientist mistakes. From the producer of BSG FWIW.
I'll see how the reviews are after the second season aired, I hate binging on shows that I have only one season of anyways, not enough material yet to binge on

They have another zombie show coming pretty soon. World Z or something like that. Zombies sell!TomViolenz wrote:Sounds awefully like another zombie apocalypse show.Tarekith wrote:Just saw the first season of Helix, quite a bit better than I expected if you can ignore the stupid scientist mistakes. I liked continuum from day one. It's really silly, but it's highly entertaining.
Hey, btw, the doctor starts pretty soon! I'm not sure about the new one though......

Well you have to see the first season in context maybe, but even then, it seemed like they didn't know which story to tell, so they made it a regular cop show instead.eyeknow wrote:I liked continuum from day one. It's really silly, but it's highly entertaining.
Season 2 and 3 make up for it though, because they start to look beyond the future tech mac guffins and start to focus on what time travel stories are meant to be: A plot device, to explore alternative realities, or in this case even, use it as a mirror for us to see our own society in more clearly. And they do that quite well!
Doctor Who?! Yeah, I'm really excited to see how the new Doctor isHey, btw, the doctor starts pretty soon! I'm not sure about the new one though......
I'm a huge fan of the show
Re: Good TV Sci Fi Shows?!
Speaking of shows which improved, I though Agents of Shield managed to narrowly escape the jaws of defeat. After the first few eps I said "I'm not watching this bullshit anymore" , the overly beautiful supposed wikileaks programmer, super agent handsome, and perky Merry and Pippin under the leadership of the D level comic relief from the movies. There was no dramatic tension, as they had all the money and power in the world, and then merely battled some half-baked non-super-villains which had no expensive movie rights allocations.
Look out potatoman, here comes the over-funded NSA of handsomeness to end your not very dastardly schemes.
But my GF persuaded me to give the final handful a go and it did actually improve in all areas. Plots and characters were developed, worlds expanded, dramatic tension nearly appeared. Not bad.

There's a big twist halfway that really takes things somewhere totally different from zombies.TomViolenz wrote:Sounds awefully like another zombie apocalypse show.Tarekith wrote:Just saw the first season of Helix, quite a bit better than I expected if you can ignore the stupid scientist mistakes. not really sci fi like star trek or whatever but utopia on channel 4 is back for its second season
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/utop ... -2-trailer
you might not be able to see the trailer outside of the uk, i'm not sure.
i don't really follow serials on tv as i can hardly ever be bothered to set aside the same time each week to watch them and usually just forget
but utopia is highly watchable. it looks beautiful, really great contrasts in colours and so much yellow. great characters and brilliant soundtrack :

i don't always understand what on earth is going on but i got the overall gist

don't have time to go through the thread right now... but Continuum was what instantly popped in my head. Angstrom's review nails it. you have to muscle through the first couple of episodes and their Hollywoody flaws but once it gets going it twists and bends and just seems to keep getting better. i started season 2 this past Saturday. so far so good.TomViolenz wrote:That sounds cool! Not everyone likes time travel stories, but I do.Angstrom wrote:That canadian one, Continuum.
Starts off semi shit, while the protagonist is still trying to get back to the future for her fucking son, but slowly finds its feet and even has a turnaround mid-season moment where the disgruntled audience member (me) appears as a deus ex machina and tells the protagonist "stop whimpering about your damn family and get with the sci fi". Future son is never mentioned again!
From then on it's a better series full of convoluted multidimensional timetravel plot lines.
Graphed satisfaction

So I'll take a closer look.

A quick opinion piece from me on season 1 can be found on the last page, the next seasons follow. I already watched all 3 and yes, 2 and 3 are much better than 1 was

Re: Good TV Sci Fi Shows?!
Hm, this doesn't look good:
During an interview in May 2014, Simon Barry revealed that he has 7 to 10 seasons in mind for Continuum[8][9] while Rachel Nichols also hinted at a "completely different Kiera",[8][9] Simon Barry said in an interview that information about Season 4 will be announced by Shaw in July.[8] On July 16, 2014, Barry stated that Shaw would release renewal or cancellation news in early August.[8][10][11] However no announcement had been made by late October although Denis McGarth stated on August 23, 2014 that news would arrive soon.[8][12][13] On September 26, Syfy confirmed that they were unlikely to save Continuum should Showcase choose to cancel it.[8][14][15]
Re: Good TV Sci Fi Shows?!
So most likely all the episodes out now are it then, no conclusion?

Re: Good TV Sci Fi Shows?!
Honestly?! I was kind of expecting this and don't think a solution is required. IMO the end of the last season rounded up the whole series nicely and I got the feeling the story is told. The cliffhanger seemed tacked on to me and the proposed turn the show would take according to it seemed gimmicky.
I think if you just forget that the last few scenes of the last episode ever happened it is a really nice conclusion.
Of course that doesn't mean that I wouldn't watch it if they'd decide to continue the show anyways
