Random glitches with Motu 828x thunderbolt
Hey,
i have few random glitches with Live 9.1.3 and my Motu 828x connected in Thunderbolt. They happen not often (every 5-10 minutes) on a very light project, CPU around 6% and buffer size at 256 samples. Still, it's a show stopper and my tour is starting in september.
MacBook Pro i7 2.8 GHz, SSD, OS 10.9.3,
Feedback, ideas, anyone ?
Thanks !

Did you contact MOTU on this? Also it's maybe good to upgrade to 10.9.4, just to be sure...

Yep, i am in contact with motu (usual bullshit) and i upgraded to OSX 10.9.4 and Live 9.1.4.
Last thing i did is disable every single energy saving setting. So far so good but it only happens once in a while.

I'm guessing it might be driver related as I think the motu is pretty new.
I have a UAD Apollo (which seems to work pretty stable), but even though I always had it connected via Thunderbolt it always showed up as a Firewire device on my Mac.
This was because UAD never developed dedicated Thunderbolt drivers for it (even though they had Thunderbolt connections). Just within a few months, UAD finally developed Thunderbolt drivers and my Mac now see this as a PCI device.
I am guessing it took UAD a while to iron out some issues with Thunderbolt to finally get it to work properly.
You don't have any alternate ways to connect the 828x (or like UAD, they might have Firewire drivers for the Thunderbolt connection)?
If it has Firewire (or even USB 2.0) connections, you might want to try it. Even though Thunderbolt is way faster than those two, it is probably easier to create the Firewire and USB drivers as most manufacturers are used to writing stable drivers for them.

Sucky that you pay a premium for a thunderbolt interface and the thunderbolt doesn't work properly
Anyway have you tried disabling appnap? I found it to be a pain with some audio apps (in particular it was sending some midi drivers to sleep) and found a global way to disable it in terminal:

Re: Random glitches with Motu 828x thunderbolt
Ok, i might have done some progress :
with usb :
using a two pins power wire for the computer : disconnecting/connecting the power supply makes a high pitch and computer hiccup (capable of making the computer crash!).
using a three pins power wire (grounded?) : no probs when plugging/unplugging the power connector.
With TB i could not reproduce the same behavior, though. But it could that, right ? an isolation/electric problem ?

Re: Random glitches with Motu 828x thunderbolt
I was having the same issue you were with the random glitches with 828x. They have just posted a firmware update on their downloads page. Unfortunately I don't see a change list anywhere. Hopefully the is problem is addressed. Upgrading my firmware now. I'll test in a couple days.
