APC40 Random Midi being sent to Ableton

Post by RexKramer » Wed Aug 20, 2014 9:03 pm

Hi there

Having a real issue with my APC40 Mk1. It's suddenly started to send random midi signals to Ableton. They seem to be coming from the Device and Track Controllers. If I don't even touch the controllers I can see the LEDs around them shift and flash a bit. I've even unplugged the USB on the APC and it continues, so this really looks like an internal thing with the controller.

Have NO idea what I'm meant to do and don't think there's anywhere in the UK that even services these things. Has any one experienced this or does anyone have any thoughts on what I could do?

Much as I'd love an excuse to buy a Push or a MK2, I'd really rather not have to start dipping into that 'pension' fund.

I've done a quick search on the Forum and not found anything like this, but I might have missed something, so please let me know if this has already been discussed

Thanks in advance for any help

It is random but always coming from same button/knob, isn't it?

I didn't have this issue with APC but another control. Oxygens pitcbend was sending random messages, really annoying.
I solved it with wacuum pomp + contact cleaner. It must be dusted.

A moderately easy fix that I just did myself for this same problem. You need to purchase a product called Deoxit F5 http://www.amazon.com/CLEANERS-LUBRICAN ... =deoxit+f5 There is also a "pen/brush" tip version that is a bit more $ but it would be easier to apply. This is the best stuff of it's kind out there, and they also sell it at Radio Shack if that's an option for you.

You must completely open up the APC, removing all knob covers, screws, so that you can get to where you are looking at the circuit board and can give the base of the metal knob posts a spray (Where the shaft meets the base). Then twist them back and forth to work the Deoxit into the encoder. Take care to not spray the entire board (probably won't harm it, but safer that way). You should also spray each fader track and the crossfader while you have it open.

I did this and mine is working like new again!
