best Maschine + Live workflow for my situation

Post by bimbom » Fri Aug 22, 2014 8:09 pm

Hey all, I'm an fairly experienced live user and also have a Maschine. I hadn't used it much but recently pulled it back out. I'm not quite sure how to best setup this workflow, and I'm hoping some other users might have some input based on my particularly situation:

I realize I might not be able to do all of this, though here is what I want:

1) Be able to tweak individual Maschine drum sounds in Ableton (like in a drum rack). As of now, every time I use the Maschine I have to commit to a drum pattern and then export the audio to Ableton. I really like the workflow of making drum patterns on the Maschine, and would like to continue doing that but be able to then tweak the individual drum sounds in an Ableton drum rack.

2) Be able to use the Maschine to quickly switch between tracks, arming/disarming/soloing, etc.

3) Have an easy way to get samples (either WAV files or audio I just recorded) into the Maschine for sampling.

4) Load my own drum sounds into Maschine and save them as custom drum kits.

This isn't for a live performance workflow, just in the studio. I am often using piano and thus am not 100% on the Maschine. I'm looking for a good balance between being able to just be at the Maschine while laying down drums (and being able to tweak them after), and layer in piano sounds while at the computer.

Essentially I'd like to only have to use the computer for tweaking sounds, and not have it get in the way of spur of the moment ideas. Is there is a Maschine template for Ableton already out there that best suits this?

Appreciate any help I can get! Thank you

I'd be interested as well.

Maschine + Live in parallel for beat making seems to be more cumbersome IMO.

I do better working solely in Live occasionally using Maschine as a sound module.

I find Live has a more well rounded workflow.

I do make some beats in Maschine then import into Live to finish.

Now Maschine as a Ableton controller is nice though.

I use maschine as a vst plugin within ableton, usually put a kit together I am happy with and start jamming some drum shit.

Once I'm happy with it arm an audio track to re-sample and record each sound back into live as audio.

Make a new audio channel for each sound kick, hats, claps, perc etc and drag each recorded audio onto respective channels to allow eq'ing comp. etc.

for me it's made writing drums a lot more creative!
