REWIRE midi out

Post by sylvain » Mon Aug 25, 2014 2:00 pm

hi,

I'm using Cubase7 as master and live9 as slave with rewire.
i can send midi from cubase to live but can't find how to send midi from live to cubase.
wich is usefull when you use simple midi loops or some sequencers in maxforlive (!)

i red on some pages that it was not possible ? this is ridiculous 8O . Please tell me there's a way around.

Hi bud :D

Are you using rewire for both DAWS in either 32 bit or 64 bit, both have to be the same for rewire to work correctly

If so,in Live use the external instument device, drag onto a mid track to use.

Someone else with experince of Cubase might help too

Hope that helps a bit

Hi,

thx for answer. Well cubase is master and live is in rewire slave (both x64)
when so, if i put an "external instrument" on a live's midi track it says "not available in rewire mode" that looks like a good reason for not working :p

Hmm interesting :!:

Although I usually use Reason as a slave and Live being the master

So,might be something to do with that,as I drop an exrternal instrument onto a mid track in Live, then I can choose reason ,and the insturument or whatever, and the audio channel, for Reason if rewuired.

not sure, not got much experience beyond what I know already

Maybe sommeone else here ,might be able to help out

afaik rewire is a one way street: master>midi>slave>audio>master
home | sound | twitter | m4l
Windows 10 64bit - Live 11.0.6 - M4L 8 - RME Babyface/iConnectAUDIO4+

Correct. It ensures perfect synchronization of transport and data between master and slave.
Additional routing (if allowed) would introduce timing problems.

Just wondering if you could use something like a virtual midi port?

I use Loopbe, its free and easy to use,I have used this to good effect recently, maybe that might help

Lol, I actually find it extremely useful and have produced many things with it. Imagine running 2+ applications without Rewire sync and routing. And you can't really blame Rewire for not working backwards to the way it was intended to be used - i.e. Master controls things, Slave follows....

... for MIDI workarounds to output the other way, yes as David mentions...virtual MIDI port applications can be great for that purpose. On PC I use MIDI-OX (used to be MIDI Yoke) http://www.midiox.com/
On MAC you can use IAC.

Also. No Max for Live and No 3rd Party VST's, Period.

Would be nice to actually DISABLE the max for live instruments for the selections? Like helpful? Or at least indicate which they are???
