In OSX after a period of time, recordings have clicks
I record vocals through the M-Audio Duo into Live In. Usually I can record clear vocals just fine. But sometimes, after about 20 minutes suddenly my recordings become useless when I play them back to find clicks embedded in the recording. Also, sometimes there is not only clicks but suddenly the whole recording is distorted and sounds as if its going through some feedback tunnel!

Hi,
this is a problem some other user also reported. I'm working on that and try to find the reason for this behaviour.
Another user said me that he had the same problems but after the disabling of the internal ethernet it works well again.
Still a question: Do you use the Duo for output & input or do you have selected a different output device (like built in)?
regards,
Alex

funny you should ask, I do NOT use the duo for output. For output I use the built in. Could this be related?
Where do you adjust the internal ethernet?! Sounds internet related. And if for some reason it is, I don't even have internet hookup on my G4.
Another thing worth noting is that I have found that when it starts doing those clicks I can monitor my input through live and hear the clicks as they record. SOMETIMES, if I adjust my latency to really slow(many samples), the clicks go away. But I don't think that always works. I have also noticed that the clicking sounds only occur while I sing or make a sound into the Mic. If I stay silent, no clicks. If I start to sing they begin etc.

Hi again,
it could be that the use of physical dfferent devices for in & out is the problem. Could you try to do some recordings with the Duo as in & output device?
The problem could be the sync between two different audio devices because every one is using it's internal clock. But I'm still have to invest more time on that issue.
I just heared from the ethernet disable stuff. I had to ask the user back for more information.

Alex

Hey, I will try and setup my Duo for both in and output. As far as recording to an external device and then playing that into my hard drive, that would defeat the very way I need to use Live. Using the metronome, singing along to previously recorded things, doing punch-ins etc. are critical to its use.
It's horrible, last night I couldn't even record because of the distortion of my recordings. I also can't stress enough that I feel this is somewhat related to Latency. If I take the slider that adjusts the Latency and slide it while Monitoring my input, when I slide it I hear clicks and at one point by making it really slow it fixed the problem. But then it just came back again...who knows...

Alright, so the problem continues. I finally hooked up my Duo for both input and output. It gives a good clean signal through my speakers. However, the input is still no good. In fact, something strange is happening.
I have a session that I would like to add more vocals to. I open the session and I can play it fine. Before I play it, I activate a track with Live In and sing into my Mic. It gives levels on the track and it appears good to go. Then I press play and for some reason, all the tracks that play are somehow being routed into the Input. When I listen to whats been recorded, I find it to be my own voice--along with the rest of the song--completely distorted and horrific sounding. So the problem still remains of my recordings being ruined. It is officially so bad, I have not had a moment when it has been a clean recording in a while now...
What can I do?

Hey, its me again. Just wanted to say that this problem is really inconsistent and hard to target. I was just trying to record again with my new setup using the duo for in and output.
For some reason my microphone signal was coming out over my speakers and I didn't even select Monitor Input through Live! Not only that but it was coming over the speakers in that same horrible distortion.
Out of disgust I switched back to the old setup using the computers built-in as my output. Then it recorded fine and I was flying. Then 5 minutes later it was back to recording nasty distorted vocals...
Someone please help me.

Hi,
M-Audio has released a 1.5.1f1 (beta) driver saying it would fix some noise based on sync lost (whatever they mean).
http://www.midiman.net/support/drivers/ ... _151f1.tgz
do you have tried to use this one?
regards,
Alex

distorted recordings
my problem seems to be the same:I'm recording from a cd-player digitally by coaxial to Edirol UA-5 and then usb to iMac.sometimes clear and ok, then next time ,without any changes a horrible distorted sound.Since I'm new to Live (2.03) I thought it was my fault some way, but it seems not that way.I hope it can be solved soon!
kimmo,
Please be sure your clock source is set properly. Your digital clocks could be fighting, resulting in a massive wall of digital distortion.
When going digital, you need to have a master and a slave.
Make sure both devices are not trying to be the master.
Your CD player may be preset to one or the other, without an option to change where it gets its sample clock. Make sure they are both set to the same rate. (ie 44.1k or 48k)
