5.1......... when?

Post by atomic » Fri Aug 19, 2005 4:09 pm

I am not trying to to be rude or an asshole here but I am getting more and more frustrated with the buggs in 5 as time goes on and am just wondering when we can expect the next fix to come out.

I am not so worried about the bells and wistles. But being able to render and resample with out clicks is needed ASAP. It seems that if there is going to be a problem with a program it happens on my computer so if you ever want to see if a new feature is going to messs up just give me a call and ill let you know.

I have sent off two emails to Ableton in the last month trying to resolve this problem and not recived a responce from either of them. This is a little odd to me as usaly they get back to me very fast. This means that 1. i have a problem with my email program. Or 2. they are very backed up with emails. Are others still getting a good responce time from ableton? if so i will look into my computer to see if I have sent it to the wrong addy or what not.

Peace

they are very quiet at the moment (on the forum)

I can only assume that they are working furiously to resolve the issues, Ableton is in the media spotlight more and more these days (big name DJs etc.) - So, they know more than anyone that they need to make this release solid.

it won't do them any good to become known as 'that buggy looping program'

Hello atomic,
But being able to render and resample with out clicks is needed ASAP
We know that clicks in the audio can occurs when rendering tracks using third party plug-ins. Probably this can only be solved when we will provide an option like "Rendering in real-time".

But for resample this should not be a problem. Same when rendering a track using only Ableton effects.

Alex

Thank you for getting back to me Alex. As I said, I am having problems with resampling what could be causing this do you think? It is beging to become a major problem for me.

Any advice would be great as I have tried many things and wasted much of my time with this issue.

Thanks

Please explain this a bit more. What exactly do you do and what happens?

Hey Alax thank you for folling up on this thread.

I have been trying to resample my tracks into groups for example. So in my arange window i mute all but my drums. I then create an audio track and set its inputs to resample. I then play the drum tracks for the length of the song wile resampling it into the new track. During the recording i have been listeining and there are no clicks. But when I play the track back there will be say about 3 glitches during a 6 min. track. The "glitches" or "ticks" as i describe them are very short.

I want to mention that I am not ever getting clicks and pops wile working it is only when resampleing and rendering.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

DOUGH!

I am not totaly sure yet but it looks like I may have figured out my rendering and resampling problem. After trying to remove and test each seperate plugin in two different sets (alot of dam time). It seems that the problems where being caused buy a program that I was running in the background

This is most embarrassing as I know better. I thought of it but gave it little mind as i have used the program in the background in the past with no problems at all.

Sooooooo If you are having problems with rendering make sure you are not running "mother board monitor" at all! Shut that thing down and all other little apps that you may have running in the background. It should have been the first thing I checked.

I am posting because I wanted to make sure that all who have been reading this knows that these problems are not buggs with Live 5.

Ok there we go hope the good renders and resampling continues. I am not to worried as i did about 5 renders of my latest track with out one glitch at all. :D

Which program were you running in the background?

I do say in my post but reguardless it was Mother Board Monitor. It is a utility program that reads your system temps. I have used it for many years and untill now have had no problems with it. But I am just happy to have things working at least for the moment.

I have only rendered a few times with it working right but I was not getting any good renders at all before and have made no other changes so I am quite sure that it was "MBM" and I a hoping that I will continue to see good results.

As a rule of thumb, you should always close/disable/bypass any application that runs in the background, and specially stuff that deals directly with your hardware, ei. cooling/temp stuff, power management schemes, etc.

Rendering?? Who cares about that?? I can't get Live 5 to deal with my 4.1.4 sets properly...the warping is all over the place! Now THAT's a problem.

Live 5 takes about 4 times longer to start. Not cool.

Groove Agent does not work properly...the GUI has to be on-screen for it to work properly and receive start/stop functions. Choosing kits and styles doesn't work like it did with 4.1.4.

I now have a dozen songs in 5 that I cannot perform on-stage.

When is the update indeed! I leave for my tour in 4 days...I need a miracle, Ableton. :?

why dont you just revert to 4? There is no way that you are going to get a fix for that overnight.

Because the new material is smoking...and it's what I want to play. To "revert" back means opening up the Sounds Folder of the Live 5 songs and painstakingly dragging them into a Live 4 session, carefully rearranging them exactly the same.

But it's worse than that, of course. The special warping of Live 5, the mp3 support, and especially Beat Repeat make turning a Live 5 set into a Live 4 set pretty sketchy. It took over an hour the other day to do this for one song...and that required rendering alot of the Live 5 files into a "dumbed-down" version that Live 4 would be able to handle. Too much work!
