Plugin check on every start

Post by mag38 » Tue Aug 09, 2005 10:58 am

Any idea, what to do against this ?

Drag them out of your vst folder or create a second vst folder for Live without them and set it in the preferences.

not very practical aproach though.

personally I use other apps that can only point to one VST directory, as I make my own plugins so I want them all to appear in all hosts for testing. I dont want to have multiple duplicate VST folders with some .dll versions being out of date and some folders not containing all plugins. That is madness

other host apps dont exhibit this behaviour.

personally I have given up on Live 5 for now and am working in 4.

5 has some nice functions but it annoys me too much for what I want it to do. Those few little niggles add up to timewasting.
I use Live as a song sketchpad because it is quick and simple, the new functions just get in my way I found. Amazing but that's what happened.

Yeah, this is bugging me too, all my SX and Wavelab plugs are slowing down the start of Live 5.

does anybody know if ableton will do soemthing against this ?

I also don't want to split my vst folder ... I use it for several programmes,
I'm not willing to change this for one programme

That's funny because i was using Live as a sketchpad to replace Cubase SX. Since upgrading to Live 5, I now use SX3 again as my sketchpad (and everything else) and Live 5 is not getting used at all. My main gripes are that it takes ages to load up because of the VST plugin issue (I really couldn't be bothered confirming 50 odd dialogs every time I start up); and the fact that you cannot name midi and audio I/O.

Father it's been 35 years since my last confession ...

I've been using SX a lot recently too.

Live still has one killer function up it's sleeve (the triggering of session clips),
It's a shame they havent managed to match or surpass that one big innovation in recent years.
Adding little things like adding PDC only make it catch up to the competitors - not overtake. As far as songwriting sketchpads goes, the session clips are still it... but beyond that . Hmm - it lags. You really don't want me to list the functions that FruityLoops has that live doesnt !

The new DJ functions in Live have made me think about going out DJing other peoples music .. but it hasn't happened yet.

what I'm saying is

Live5 is becoming more of a pain in the ass with less innovation.
the plugin bug, the annoying clip preview, the mysterious orange dot, the arrangement editing lag, the clip start-offset arrangement bug, no recordable midi CC in clips, etc, etc.

I am using cubase more for some tasks these days because these things annoy me.

Apparently not... :( Maybe we should keep this topic running "hot", so ableton will finally take notice and do something about it. Doesn't seem to affect Mac though, so it must be PC only anomaly. Maybe there is a quick registry tweak... Has anyone here tried it? Just an idea...

I'm not sure if you can solve this from Options.txt

I've not used it myself but perhaps VstNoScanSkip=true;
?

Sheesh... what a list. I have also found this entry "NoVstStartupScan"..?
I'll give both of them a go later tonight - setting to "true" , "false", 1 or 0 and post the results if successful.

Hi mag38,
not usable plugins (Steinberg cubase vsts e.g.) reference to not usability at every start. It wasn't like this in ableton 4, I only got asked there one time.
This should be fixed within the next bug fix update, so not usable plug-ins will not be scanned again on each Live start.

Hi folks,

Concerning the Options.txt, I really recommend not to use any of these options unless recommended from us or from our support.
Many of these options will not work as you might expect from there name and could in the worst case vitiate your work.
We will publish a list of "usable" options within the next days.

regards,
Alex

Thanks heaps Alex, this is exactly one of the reasons I have opted to buy Live - Abletons prompt response and quick updates/bug fixes... :)
Kind Regards
