Live 9 too many crashes ?

Post by Syver » Sun Oct 26, 2014 4:14 am

... Or is it just my setup crashing all the time ?

My computer is new, my VSTs are all legit and up to date, yet not one day goes by without its crash ...

I have been sending my crash reports religiously but no improvements with the latest updates.

VST sandboxing needed urgently ?

Hi Syver,

Please submit your technical enquiry on the contact form and make sure to include a recent Crash Report so we can analyse the reason for the issue:

I agree with sandbox ing.

I think much of the problems are because of plug-ins.

Ableton is pretty stable by itself and certain VSTs are stable, but others even commercial ones are horrible.

Indeed, Ableton's support replied to my ticket that NI's new Komplete Kontrol plug-in would be the source of my problems.

I have opened a ticket with NI.

Still, one plug-in should not crash the entire application.

I am getting CONSTANT crashes loading certain sessions of mine, and now I read this line above about Komplete Kontrol crashing Live --- which is probably what's up, as I've been running that since it was released. Ugh.

Got a reply from NI: Yosemite is not officially supported yet: end of discussion.

Live is by and far the least stable program on my computer these days, which is sad. Been with it since V1 and I don't plan on going further with it unless there is a full rewrite for version 10. I have done my best to eliminate any problematic plugs from my workflow, and even run only built in plugs for many projects and there are still totally random crashes.

Ableton Live 9 64bit never crashes for me during normal daily studio use, like recording, playing or mixing. I use several third party plug-ins from Fxpansion, Native Instrument, T-Racks and a few others. I use as few Audio Units as possible. I'm not sure if that makes a difference, it's just a habit that I picked up from the community.

Sometimes when third party (VST) plug-ins are involved and I try to do something you probably can't do for some reason, like open the Kontakt libraries in Sampler, there may be crash. Other than that, there are no stability problems even under heavy load and intensive use.

I've also run the betas and found them quite stable as well.
