Drum Rack Faders In Live and Volume Knobs on Push?
Drum Rack Faders In Live and Volume Knobs on Push?
Loading a drum rack, say a 707, you cannot see or adjust the faders in Live from push. You have to adjust each drum in note mode. Okay, but when doing so the fader on screen does not move.
This can get confusing as the faders in Live and the individual volume knobs on push do not reflect each other, yet perform the same adjustment. Can someone confirm.

It seems thats not possible to control the single pads in a drum rack at the moment.
Push would be perfect in my eyes with this little things:
- expand drum racks to control volume, mute and solo for the single pads
- send and return control in drum rack mode
- the browser should remember my last search, so i don't have to start to browse everytime from the same point

Yep, I couldn't agree more. These features will probably come in time, but the pains that come along with trying to stay on the cutting edge with new gear.. hurts.

This is indeed a very basic function that is overlooked.
I 'solve' this by creating a bunch of midi clips with seperate drumracks, instead of playing it all in 1 drumrack.

Re: Drum Rack Faders In Live and Volume Knobs on Push?
The reason for this is that the 707 (like other core library racks) is a drum rack with instrument racks inside. When you adjust the volume of a pad you adjust the chain volume of the instrument rack, not the chain volume on the drum rack. Only the chain volume of the drum rack is reflected by the faders.lyovino wrote:Loading a drum rack, say a 707, you cannot see or adjust the faders in Live from push. If I understand you right this is already possible, try the following (when talking about pads I'm mean the Drum Rack Pads in the lower left, not the Step Sequencer Control):knrrz wrote: It seems thats not possible to control the single pads in a drum rack at the moment.

1.
- on an empty midi track click Browse, load a Kit-Core 707 drum rack, click Browse again (be sure you are in Device mode)
- Kick 707 is selected and you can adjust it's volume with the knob left to the master volume
- select Rim 707 and you can adjust it's volume with the same knob
Edit: In addition to that, if you want to control the chain volume of the drum rack (which is reflected by the faders), you just need to macro map them.
2. To mute a pad press/hold Mute and press the pad you want to mute, press/hold Mute and press pad a second time to unmute.
3. To solo a pad press/hold Solo and press the pad you want to solo, press/hold Solo and press pad a second time to unsolo.

Pfff with all those hidden functions, it would be nice if Ableton threw a control sheet at us....

it's easy to say stuff is overlooked when it could just as easily be a lack of knowledge on the users part, as Because789 has clearly demonstrated
anyway, be sure to select the particular device you want to control and go

Yes, I have to agree that is my mistake. But since not everyone has the same amount of time on their hands to find out things theirselves, just a list with Push-commands in a PDF file would help a lot. Should take 2 minutes for Ableton to come up with something like that.

It is kinda shocking that there is not a dedicated online Push manual that covers all functionFossiel wrote:Yes, I have to agree that is my mistake. i like the idea of an instrument whose potential is uncovered, but yeah, a comprehensive manual is in order

Re: Drum Rack Faders In Live and Volume Knobs on Push?
Thanks for explaining. I don't plan on mapping the faders like you say but I had to try it, with no luck .. (Lack of know how) there were so many choices to map and unmap. But I'm clear now about the instrument racks within the drum rack and why the faders aren't reacting.Because789 wrote:The reason for this is that the 707 (like other core library racks) is a drum rack with instrument racks inside. +1, kind of shocked I can't get more hands on with Drum Rack channels. Pretty huge oversight in my mind.knrrz wrote:It seems thats not possible to control the single pads in a drum rack at the moment.

Re: Drum Rack Faders In Live and Volume Knobs on Push?
I have been asking for this for while, I made the suggestion in the beta forumif you wanna vote dor it.
In the meanwhile there are two workarounds: PXT live by nativekontrol provides control over volume and sends of individual channels in a drumrack. The second option is to place an Utility device in each drumrack pad for controlling at least volume and pan.

Adjust the mix of my drum rack is one of the first things I tried to do with Push, I'm also a little shocked this hasn't been implemented.

Push is no longer supported by Ableton.........go figure
Maybe the Washington Redskins bought Ableton's Push department?
