WOW, he assigned knobs and buttons to Live, BIG FUCKING SHOCK!

How about a bit more about HOW its put together, rather than just another "I assigned this to this, and this to this."

The "rain" effects is cool, yet remarkably random. Its always nice to see that there are others out there, doing really exhaustive routings to get severe sound.

But the monodeck vid could have been far more in depth. or it SHOULD have been.
you know, ive been noticing, and i really think you should work on being more agressive, opinionated, and controversial.

just trying to help ..

Personally, I'd like to see a documentary of, say, a certain track or live set. I'd like to see the performer go into a lot of detail about how everything is configured, and why.

I would like to see how the configuration enables the process that allows them to accomplish the song live, in an expressive way.

yeah, you're right, a little subtletly goes a long way huh

seriously though i thought the video was great, it was fun seeing that, nice toy hes got there. its a box. with knobs and circuits. that's hooked up to live. looks like a blast to play on

anyway i agree with ryan: get somebody with some cool teqniqes that feels like getting into some detail about how they rig things up, that would be great. but not manditory ;)

- How are they setting up their system? What hardware do they use with Live?
- How do they create a track or set up a live act or dj set?
- What specific parts of Live do they use frequently and how?
- What other software do they use in conjunction with Live and how (VST's and other software to rewire)?
- What do they like most about Live and were do they see room for improvement?
- What personal tips and tricks are they willing to share?

For instance, an instructional video from Sasha or Richie Hawtin, explaining in detail how whe they use Live for their dj set would be priceless.
priceless, exactly. some people might be apt to do that but in general you're asking someone to give you all their hard work for nothing. it's not like they had someone to explain it to them, they just figured it out*. you can do the same.

monolake might be a different case because he straddles the line between performer and Ableton rep. and of course the makers of xyz DAW are inclined to do instructional videos. but people that make their living using the equipment? not so much.

*well, for sure that is true in at least one of the above cases.

First of all. You can hardly call it monthly.
Second. It should have to be weekly.
well at least they've now removed the "monthly" bit.

actually, hawtins adventures with the CTRL live are somewhat documented already:
www.plastikman.com - click "live"
and http://www.derivativeinc.com/Events/15-Plastikman/

-if Hawtin told people exactly what he did, would they be able to copy it? He had a mountain of engineers working for him, Ableton did a mod for him, Derivative probably also bent over backwards...

It might however provide some inspiration, for those of us without huge boutique setups.

I must have missed something in the manual.
How do you make an empty track? Like track 2 in this picture.
