Grand Piano Probs

Anyone know how to brighten and liven up Live's Grand Piano from the Grand Piano Pack. I'm trying to achieve a sound like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spIyzp8 ... pIyzp8XDn4, But the piano sounds super dull in comparison. I have tried eq and multiband compression but it makes the piano sound mechanical. What do i do? You help is greatly appreciated.

One of my favorite tunes ever.

That piano has a gorgeous tone in the mid-lower registers where it's playing. I'm not sure you're necessarily looking for brightness so much as presence. Each piano obviously also sounds different, even real pianos so getting "that sound" will be difficult. I'm not much of a fan of the Grand Piano pack. Kontakt has some decent piano sounds and I like to use Pianoteq because it can come fairly close to a piano sound without taking all the hard drive space of many sample-based pianos.

My recommendation would be try EQing differently. Give it a bump somewhere between 80 and 150 Hz - lowish to mid-lowish Q, kick it up a bunch and sweep it between those frequencies and see where it sounds best and closest to what you're looking for. Once you find "the spot" take the level down to a level that is more realistic. Also try a bump somewhere in the 2 - 6 Khz for additional presence using the same method. Adjust Q and level to fit the sound you're looking for and the mix. Then, tack on a decent reverb or play with the reverb settings in the Grand Piano track. The macros only control overall reverb delay time and mix level. Open up the reverb and adjust predelay, diffusions, size, reflection, etc.

I can get a sound that's similar to the one in that video, at least that's how it sounds to me. I just added the Grand Piano Equal Bright Production rack to an audio track, added a Chorus onto it with what I think are the factory default settings with 30% wet, plus a Reverb. With the latter I started with a Large Factory with a Predelay of 1.34ms, Size 0.91, and Decay time of 649ms. This is probably more reverb than the one in the video but it's worth experimenting to get the sound you like.

It was oigbwalhfmf's suggestion of layering that got me playing around with it. And now I've got another nice preset.
