Because that would be rude? Is it acceptable to assist a friend with one of those nostril thingies with salted water?

A bunch of weenies. I went to punk shows in the 70s where performers would regularly cold-cock out of control audience members with mike stands and guitars.

I've also been on the other side of the situation: audience members landing on stage (often just so high they fell over while dancing), knocking over equipment, etc. Once a guy knocked over a PA stack that fell onto a guitar and smashed it.

Oh the enlightment, I can feel it wash over me

Anyways, musically Hawtin is "good" at finding the cheapest ear candy at any given moment that will make the sheep go crazy. I give him that. That's why he's so damn successful (and it's also part of why I think he personifies the worse of the poor state of Techno atm).
So if that's what you go and strive for, you would of course consider him a giant. ;-)
But beyond that he does nothing musically interesting whatsoever.

Just like Scooter. Because if you look at Hyper Hyper in isolation it's a freaking banger bar none.

So it's official then that Tom Violenz don't know Techno. Pathetic.
No you made it official now: you have shit taste

I'm a little curious about the love Hawtin is getting here. For me he is just the most sucessfull of a section of techno I would describe as main-room techno, best presented by guys like him David Guetta, Tiesto and other talentless overhyped media whores.

Has there really ever been a time when he didn't suck?!

I would appreciate any links to any such awesome sets 8)

No audio would be better. I can't stand his face anyways :x

But when I mean set, I mean music he made, and not just him playing other artists work.

Tom, you are just trolling.

Hawtin was pretty definitive in the 90's, if you really want to know about it you can Google or Wikipedia it like anyone else. In 2002 he goes to Ibiza with Sven Vath and its all downhill from there. That's pretty much all you need to know.

It was a Plastikman set that made me want to do music for a living. He can have some incredible sets, but like any DJ that plays out almost every night for years. There's some duff nights too. I've seen him a couple times where it really felt like he was just phoning it in and all he would do would cut the bass for a few bars on every track :)

I liked Sven Väth back in the day (don't know much of what he does now, except that he is also cashing in big with the whole Ibiza thing).
Played some monster after Love Parade sets in front of Tresor.

That said. While I was a big clubber back then, I was always aware that Techno in the 90s was pretty horrible music made better with drugs.

The first acts that were of a higher musical quality (Sven Väth somewhat among them) only turned that way when the tools got better in the 2000s.

Before that it was all about who could louder, harder, faster and cheesier.

Could it be that your positive memory is tainted by the drugs you took back then?! It certainly is for me.

Also when mentioning Sven Väth, he at least has a looooooong list of decent to good releases he made himself. I hear Hawtin is all about ghost producing.

And what is a Lounge thread without a little trolling
