Burning man
Re: Burning man
For years I really wanted to go to Burning Man, sooo bad. By the time we got to Seattle and I could actually make it happen, I started to change my mind. Just kept meeting so many people who were going that were lawyers, doctors. not into the scene and just going for drugs, etc. They were going only because they heard it was the cool thing to do, so by that time I felt maybe things had just gotten too popular to get the same out of it like I would have years ago.
Most people I talk to who've been going for years say that usually after a couple days the newbies relax and get into the vibe anyway, so it's really not that bad. The corporate aspect is definitely increasing though I hear.
Still, we have so many awesome festivals here in the Pacific Northwest, it's really amazing. Burning Man now seems a like an awful lot of money and work to hang out in a really unpleasant environment with a shit ton of people. I'm still curious to check it out, but I don't think I'd stay the whole time.

On the plus side at least burning man is distracting the corporate types from infesting the lesser known festivals. It’s like the roach motel of festivals.
Re: Burning man
I was thinking you need to be on drugs to tolerate the blistering heat in the day. No a/c, no waybeats me wrote:When I was a younger age that would appreciate this type thing it sounded like way too much effort for roughing it and given the amount of partying involved, being hung over in a tent without privacy or a shower sounds like a living hell.
And I don’t think you need to be on drugs to enjoy the spectacle. You need to be on drugs to tolerate all the other people on drugs. Ever arrived at a bar an hour late and everybody is already fully tossed? This would be like 1,000 times more annoying.
Re: Burning man
Actually freezing nighttime temperatures seems to be more of a problem. I don’t think it gets all that hot regularly. Otherwise you’d have piles of people dying from exposure and dehydration, especially the e-tards.
Re: Burning man
It's about 110 in the daytime at peak. Dehydration is an issue but most people are too high to care. I wouldn't be able to handle it physically at my age.beats me wrote:Actually freezing nighttime temperatures seems to be more of a problem. I don’t think it gets all that hot regularly. It would be nice to go for a day and just trip on the scene, but that would be the most I'd want to be there. That would be all my skin could take as well.
Re: Burning man
Guess my quick Google search did me wrong on that one and I don’t recall anybody who has gone complaining to me about the heat.
But I agree AC is a bare minimum life requirement.

Re: Burning man
Yeah, I heard with climate change Seattle is just getting wind of this new A/C contraption.
Re: Burning man
I spent a summer there in 98. It was so hot all the time, we'd go down to the movies or safeway just to have ac for a little while. Glad I brought all summer clothes.
Re: Burning man
I've actually thought a lot about this (thanks capressssaaaaazzzzz fag for bumping!) and it's still mesmerizing. I could NEVER do this. Even if I got a ticket and though I have an RV......I could NEVER do it!
But it tasks me......it's REALLY interesting. I almost feel like I need to
