Sustain a sound will Ableton Analog synth accomplish this?

Post by toastytraxx » Fri Mar 28, 2014 3:41 am

Hi,

I bought Ableton Live 9 standard and I need a instrument to sustain a sound in live. I was looking at the Analog synth Ableton built with ADSR. I need it to sustain a audio clip (acapella) at a certain point in the song.

I was wondering if anyone knows if I would be able to accomplish this with this synth?

No, as that is not what a synth is for or envelope generators (ADSR) for that matter.

To stretch an audio clip, you need to use Live's Warping features.

Sampler in Sustain Mode using a gentle amount of Crossfade and precision placement of Loop Start will do exactly what you want. Sampler doesn't come with Live Standard but neither does Analog so go figure.

Please take no offense but you need take time to read the manual as your initial hunch to use Analog to do this shows a profound misunderstanding of the tools you've got at your disposal. On the bright side if you need help getting it to work once you get the right tool in place, just ask (but be specific with your question).

I did look at the manual at point 24 it explains about analog and also in the packs section. It does not explain whether it can be used on audio or not and this is why I asked my question.

I have a couple of soft synths which I can use my midi controller to hold notes with but they do not work on audio only midi. This is why I asked before purchasing anything as I have not used or have anything to accomplish what I am trying to do.

You should be able to do it the way I described, I recently did exactly that on a vocal part but it won't necessarily sound perfectly natural. However, there might be better and/or cheaper tools to do the same thing if that's the only thing you want to do. Which tools? That's a question I can't answer.

Bump.

Has anyone found out how to do this in ableton?

I can see how it works in logic it has a simple plugin that comes with logic that has a freeze effect, shown how to do it here http://music.tutsplus.com/tutorials/cre ... udio-19088

Without going in to to much detail like wave generators and carrier signals I was wondering what the best way would be to generate this type of effect if anyone has any ideas or plugins that work?
