External Synth with Motu Microlite randomly continues playin

Post by ElectroClash » Mon Sep 29, 2014 9:44 pm

Hello, I just changed my old Daw and i bought a new 21 iMac with Mavericks OS, so installing everything new i noticed this issue:

As written in the title i use three external synths, two of which have only midi connections without USB (Moog Voyager and Micro Korg).

My configuration is this: Motu 828 MKIII Firweire (so old version), Push, Maschine Studio, Remote SL MKII (With Automap 4.8 ) and.... Motu Micro Lite.

Last driver/firmware downloaded for everything, obviously for Live too (I'm using 32 bit version)

When i'm playing chords, arpeggios or notes on external synths randomly, but frequently, a notes remain active and continues playing... it's impossible to use it.

I tried disconnecting every controllers but the MicroLite, I changed the USB connection port on iMac rear panel, I closed Automap, ...nothing works.

I connected the External Synth to the 828 MKIII midi port or to Maschine Midi Out and IT WORKS PERFECTLY!

So the problem is the Microlite Midi interface... it's strange because on old iMac (2009) with Live 9.1.4 i didn't noticed it (but Mac used to crash frequently in last period, so maybe it's just a case)

Do i need to change Midi interface?
Do you know a solution?
Ok i could use other ports, but it's quite frustrating and not so simple to change cable connections...

Shall i change Midi interface??
If yes.. Esi? M-Audio? any suggestions?

Thank you

I also have that problem with the Motu Microlite on my brand new Macbook Pro 15. The midi on my Ultralite mk3 (firewire only model) is perfect through the thunderbolt port. So is the audio BTW. But the midi through the Microlte on a usb3 port is unusable. I tried a powered usb hub in case the usb power wasn't enough, but it makes no difference.

OK, why do you even need a second MIDI interface when you have the one built into the 828? With only two synths to hook up it seems like overkill.

Has this been resolved I would love to know. Bunch of open ended posts with no resolution. I'm in the same boat where I'm using to external synths and the notes hanging on both of them using the Microlite Apogee ensemble and MacBook Snow Leopard

the problem is with the ports on your iMac they are a USB 3 and micro lite only supports usb 2.0. Get a usb 2.0 hub (external powered) and your problem will go away. I had this experience with my motu midi express xt and it went away as soon as I plugged it into a hub.

Thanks so much for the reply. I actually tried a regular USB to hub and a newer powered USB 3 hub and ran into problems. Plus on the MacBook 2009 werent they still using USB 2.0 Maybe I need a powered USB 2 hub is what I'm thinking.

Hello, I'm here again.
Of course it is possible to do a workaround as you suggest: but 828 as only one midi connection and i hate use midi chain.
If i bought and i used a midi interface there is a reason.. isn't it?
So now i'm using two connections: one in 828 and one in Maschine studio..
But now..

I bought two new synths again, so the problem must be solved.

Now I will try using a USB 2 powered Hub, even if iMac has USB3.
If it doesn't work, is it sufficient to buy a new Midi Interface with USB3 connection?
have you any suggestions?

I just got off the phone with Motu and they said the Microlite is super simple and there's really not much one can do wrong. He also said it would work with any USB hub powered or nonpowered. I'm still struggling with and I can't figure it out it's driving me nuts. I'm running 10.6.8on a 2009 MacBook

Yeah its crazy that MOTU doesn't seem to know about this problem but Ive helped a few users across several forums end their midi feedback loops with the USB hub fix. People never expect the problem to be that simple.
