Please allow Live to load with no audio device selected
Please allow Live to load with no audio device selected
Could you make it so that Live *does* load when there is no audio device selected, but still pops up a warning dialog while it loads in the background? That would still make it clear that there's an issue, but prevent the situation where you start/restart live, walk away, come back and find that nothing has loaded yet.
I couldn't tell you how many times I've gone from home -> studio or vice-versa, started up a big set in Live, walked away to do something while it starts up, and come back to find nothing loaded and that dialog mocking me.
I have a few sets saved that have 6-10 VSTs to load, and it takes a good long time to start up.
You know those times that you tell your computer to restart, then leave to get a cup of coffee or visit the bathroom or whatever, then you come back expecting a working machine, only to find something saying, "Are you SURE you want to restart?" This is basically the exact same thing.

A pro never walks away.
A pro has everything else come to the console.

It's a Mac.Tarekith wrote:I don't rmember seeing that before, is this on a Windows machine?
Basically, I use the "Core Audio" or whatever the default sound device is in the Mac when I'm mobile, then in the studio I connect to either an 18i6 or a Toneport UX1.
If I was using one of the external modules when I last used Live, and I'm not still connected to it the next time I start Live, this happens.

Interesting. On my MBP if I don't have my soundcard connected, Live starts up and just defaults to the onboard soundcard (or Airplay, grrrr) without any messages.

in regard to the actual problem... i have seen pretty much the same as Tarekith. if i forget to turn my interface on (before i got an Apogee Duet 2 that boots with my iMac) the onboard audio kicks in and/or Live throws an error at startup that says "no audio device is currently configured" or something along those lines. so Live opens, i just can't hear anything when i press play.
fwiw, my old interface was a TC Electronic that was connected via a Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter.
Re: Please allow Live to load with no audio device selected
For the record, this is what I'm talking about:

PLEASE make it so that this dialog doesn't stop Ableton from loading. I have sets that can take upwards of 5-10 minutes to load, coming back after that amount of time to find that this dialog is staring at me and nothing has loaded is incredibly frustrating.
Still love the product, but wish this would go away.
