Having problems recording audio - Can someone let me know what I'm doing wrong?
My gear is:
Source: Stanton STR8-80 turntable with SP/DIF digital output
Input: Tascam US428 via SP/DIF (inputs C/D, Digital)
Recording SW: Ableton Live 2.0
Monitors: Harman/Kardon SoundSticks (USB)
I'm trying to record samples from vinyl into Live using the direct-digital method.
I switched to Live from Cubase SX 1.0- which I could never get working right - specifically because I was led to believe that I could use the US-428 for input and the SoundSticks for monitoring.
I plugged the turntable into the US428's SP/DIF input - the light stays solid green, so the digital connection is apparently fine.
In the US428 Manager (using the latest 3.2.1 drivers) I set USB to Audio + MIDI Bandwidth, and set it to use inputs C and D.
However, in Ableton Live, if I select Soundsticks as the output device, *even if* I have the US428 selected for input, I see "Soundsticks 1 / Soundsticks 2" as the inputs on Live's Bus View.
If I select the US428 for both input and output, then I see "US428 1/2", which I presume is correct, but no matter what I do - monitoring recording, arming recording, etc - nothing seems to be recorded. The last time I tried switching inputs, Live crashed and quit unexpectedly.
I'm at my wit's end. I have a pile of expensive gear accomplishing nothing at the moment. I thought switching from Cubase to Live would solve my problems, but it hasn't...any ideas???
