microphone for audio to midi

Hi!
I just saw the functions audio to drums,harmony and melody.
Now the idea is really interesting and I ask myself how good the source material has to be.
I do have a good sennheiser mic but my preamp stopped working and it annoys me that I have to use so much gear for recording.
The question is whether the audio quality for the source material hat to be studio standard or if I could buy a small usb powered condensator mic which will probably cost less than a new preamp and saves me a lot of cable or if it really has to be a decent quality studio mic.
Obviously the recording will be for analyzing purposes only so the audio material won't be used in the music at all.

Hey,

I don't use this function a lot (I always forget about it!), but did you simply try with the built-in mic of your computer (if you have one)? Or if you have a smartphone, to record a voice memo and then put it in Ableton, just to see what happens? As long as there are not parasites everywhere, I don't see why one would need a quality studio mic to do this.

I have one such (forget the brand name at the moment). A simple condenser mike that plugs into a USB port. I wouldn't use it for high quality studio work but it serves perfectly well for making field recordings / recording audio that will subsequently be mangled in any case. It cost me less than 30 USD, if I remember rightly
