I'm messing with the Slice to Midi Track feature, using warp markers I've made.
It works pretty good but it seems to cut the audio at a faster tempo than the loop I am cutting is set to.
In other words, I have a loop that has four beats that I want to cut into 4 midi slices. When I play the slices, the audio is playing faster than my session's tempo so they sound weird (not only do they play too fast, but there is a gap of silence after each one before the beat of the next beat comes).
I imagine that Ableton is cutting the audio to the tempo of the original sample's tempo and it doesnt care what my session's tempo is set to.
How do I set the speed/tempo of the slices?
I imagine there is a way to cut the slices to match the tempo of your own beat.
Additionally, it would be cool if it was possible to have the slices tempo change as your session tempo changes, though this may not be possible.
Slice to Midi Track: Control Tempo/Speed?
Re: Slice to Midi Track: Control Tempo/Speed?
Try the searching this forum. That's a long-standing feature request, one that is major enough to require a whole another complete rewrite of the program perhaps.

Consolidate the audio at the tempo your set is at before bouncing.

yur2diefor,
yes that is an idea i was having.
delicioso,
thank you for those links i will look into them. i guess i should have searched the forum first! (i usually do)
strange that ableton doesnt already have a warp feature when it comes to cutting slices.....

Re: Slice to Midi Track: Control Tempo/Speed?
It isn't that the slicer doesn't have warp, it is that the samplers don't have 'stretch'
There are workarounds but they don't sound the greatest.
Because Live mostly focuses on non-destructive sample use from the surface, they basically just reference the original wav file. I don't know what would be involved with having kinds of nondestructive stretches of those samples. You'd have to use either pre-rendering or a lot of processing.
Still, it will be nice if or when they eventually implement a solution
.
Right now, I personally use tempo-synced LFO's and tiny loop brackets. It is fun to play with for slicing, but it doesn't have 'desirable' results. Like, usually with sample looping, a sample doesn't loop until the play head catches up to the end of a loop point. So yeah. Stuff like that

Re: Slice to Midi Track: Control Tempo/Speed?
thanks for the feedback.
i guess i will just freeze/flatten tracks and cut them up from there,
and wait for Live 10...
