Does transposing affect signal/sound quality?

Say I have a melody for example. Does transposing it affect the signal/sound quality at all or is it better to rewrite the melody in the key desired?

Transposing audio files changes the quality, but just transposing it a few semitones up or down shouldn't sound to bad. But i would still recommend rewriting in the desired key.
