Audio interface for production

Post by IcyIce » Thu Feb 05, 2015 9:57 pm

Hi,

I'm currently searching for a USB audio interface. I'm only using it for production of electronic music, no recording whatsoever, so I want something that can process the sounds on Ableton without the lag of the onboard soundcard, and no latency when I use a midi keyboard or launchpad.

What would be a cheap USB audio interface for these purposes with no inputs? I was thinking the Numark DJ IO2 or Fast Track.

Thanks a lot in advance,

don't go Numark!!! They don't even make an ASIO driver for their lowest ranges (their manual tells you to try ASIO4ALL!)

Free option: if you're on Windows, search for Asio4All. It's a free driver that turns your built in sound card into a low latency (but still poor sounding many times) sound card!

Cheap: Check out the low end Focusrite cards: 2i2, 2i4. The low end Presonus or M-Audio are okay (but not great in my experience).

Skip any and all Numark, Sound Blaster, or any other "Gamer" cards. Waste of money!
