Syncing ableton preferences in two computers

Post by RafaMrqs » Thu Feb 12, 2015 12:09 am

Hey guys, so check this out.
Ableton allows you to activate your license in two computers, right? I do all my work in the studio but now that I'm travelling more, I activated ableton in my laptop so I can still work when I'm away of the studio. So my question is if there is a way to sync my live preferences (like defalut sets and tracks) from my first live client to the second?

Thanks guys!

Preferences and default sets cannot be synced, but almost everything else can.

What I do is to sync my entire User Library, my Live Pack and all my sets via dropbox. I work on a desktop and an MBP. This means I can open any track on either of my computers and always be working off the latest version. No need to collect all and save. All my samples are synced via dropbox too, and the directory structure on both computers is identical.

To sync default sets,

(1) I set up my default set like I want it
(2) I go Preferences -->File Folder -->Save current set as default
(3) and I ALSO I save it to my Live Sets folder (I have a subfolder for templates) as My Default Template.als
(4) Next time I open my other computer, I open My Default Template, which by this time is synced
(5) And I repeat (2) for this computer

To sync preferences - I don't think it can be done really, and many aspects of preferences will be computer specific.

But I have learned to keep a whole lot of other things (Midi remote scripts, manuals, etc et cet) on dropbox too, so keeping the machines in sync is dead easy.

There's a lot posted on syncing computers via dropbox - I will post those links here later when I have time.

You will need quite a lot of space on dropbox but these days 10 US a month buys you one terabyte, which is more than I need.

Hey man sorry for taking so long to answer, I didn't get any notification of your reply.
I see your point, it sounds like the closer we can get to syncing two workstations.
I'll be trying that this week. Thank you for the help!
