Re: Question about Cracked Versions
Cloud bases services doesnt work for everyone.
CBP: Agree. Ideally there should be a variety of options. Adobe went 100% cloud which is also not the way to go. A pricing scheme that offers both would be good. Another problem with cloud is the inability to use the software when not connected or the side effects of dropped connections. In my case it would be acceptable however I suspect it wouldn't work for some. Still, a subscription path might be a good way to go and the cloud will work for some.
"I have a suggestion for you instead: use windows. It doesnt break compatibility with software each year."
CBP: As big a fan as I am of Linux and other Unix based Operating systems, your logic is fairly sound in this case. My own opinion (just mine) is that Apple is perhaps negatively affecting many other companies in their disruptions of sound drivers, lower level library changes and incompatible environment matrixes. Windows certainly has a leg up on OSX here in many ways. I have been using Ubuntu with a VMWare image of Windows which has worked however the VMware latency is an issue when recording sound. For some reason, the latency seems far worse (not sure if anyone has useful tips on this or perhaps it is best to avoid at all costs).
Apple is a path to stop being a reliable platform for some professionals tasks because it's upgrades breaks things on purpose so you go out and buy new hardware.
CBP: In general, I have noticed this with the audio related aspects of their platform.
While trying to be a law biding citizen, I do find myself filled with a justification to crack it because "it broke after I paid for it and it was not my fault". Whiny? Probably but I have to admit, the feeling is there.
After five paid licenses and upgrades, finding out your entire investment is now a collection of 1's and 0's that do not do anything it a bitter pill to swallow. My only option is to find some older hardware and just run a machine dedicated to nothing other than Ableton.
Out of curiosity, what version of Windows will run Ableton 7? Do you know if there is a cross platform upgrade path?

Live lite is free, kinda.
Re: Question about Cracked Versions
if your mac has an intel chip try installing windows, win 7 is the best option and it should run Live 7 without problems.

Re: Question about Cracked Versions
Thanks.
Yes, I am using an Intel chipped Mac with OSX 10.9.5. I've got VMWare with Win XP but that's kinda old. If I get Win 7 do I need any other libs or am I set?
Will try.

Re: Question about Cracked Versions
I don't think anything is stopping you from installing Snow Leopard (IMO Apples best OSX version anyway, stable as hell!)
And if you don't want to torrent that, I'm sure you can get the discs for under 20 bucks on e-bay. (They were 29 new)

Re: Question about Cracked Versions
Ah - you would think so. I have thought of this many times. This process is not as straightforward as one might think. Trying to install an earlier version of Mac OSX is actually much trickier than it should be.CanadianBassPunk wrote:I don't think anything is stopping you from installing Snow Leopard (IMO Apples best OSX version anyway, stable as hell!)

I have a Retina display so that limits my choices to OSX versions that actually support Retina.
Apple tries to scare you by stating you should *never* install an earlier version of OSX than one that your hardware came with:

There are major issues people encounter.

Great idea in principle. Sadly, another dead end for me...

Re: Question about Cracked Versions
Normally on windows when a program requires an specific library the program installs it.
I suggest you just try it it what ever version of windows you have around (Xp, vista or win7).

Yes and thank you! This is my next course of action. It looks like the best way forward so thank you for your help.login wrote:Normally on windows when a program requires an specific library the program installs it.

I have never had an issue with an OS X version upgrade because I'm not an idiot who compulsively updates to a shiny new version of Mac OS just because it's new.login wrote:Cloud bases services doesnt work for everyone.

Just wait a few weeks/months after official release and confirm that your latest DAW and audio interface driver version are compatible before installing.
Never had a problem.

Well on windows you dont have to "wait" or be "carefull", updates never break anything.
Re: Question about Cracked Versions
Oh but they do. The only difference is that Microsoft only releases a major upgrade every 4 years or so instead of every year and charges 2 to 300 bucks for the trouble instead of nothing. I wouldn't have touched Windows 8 with a ten foot pole even for basic functionality when it was released, let alone for critical production work. Same for Windows Vista or any version of Windows really. Every Windows user (myself included, I own a custom gaming rig and a rMBP so I'm familiar with both OSs in case you'd think I was some Apple fanboy) knows it is wise to wait for the first service pack before even considering a new Windows version.login wrote:BoddAH wrote:I have never had an issue with an OS X version upgrade because I'm not an idiot who compulsively updates to a shiny new version of Mac OS just because it's new.login wrote:Cloud bases services doesnt work for everyone.

In fact, I still use Windows 7. Same with OS X. It's perfectly fine to upgrade to the latest OS X version after a few weeks once your audio interface and production software is officially compatible but even then nobody's forcing you. Just because it's free and shiny doesn't mean you have to. I know many people who are still very happy with Snow Leopard.

Re: Question about Cracked Versions
To mister whiny:
You certainly have an issue that is unpleasant and I can see how you would expect old(er) software to run on your new system.
BUT:
A: is it really Abletons responsibility to keep 5 year old software up to date to run on even the newest OS?
Where would that stop? Maybe someone still has Live 2. Would you find it reasonable to expect that to still run?!
B: Apple changed the framework, not Ableton. So why is your anger directed at Ableton
C: When new OSes come out, old things are made obsolete. That's how that game works. Otherwise new OSes could not go new routes and adapt to new challenges.
D: How in the world does your problem tie in with cracked software?! (<-- this is what made your posts the most douchy)
Open a new thread, explain your problem (Live 7 in OSX Yosemite what to do?!) Try to find out which of the last OSX versions was still running Live 7. Either here on the forum or with Ableton support.
Maybe reverting back to Snow Leopard (which you say doesn't support retina) is not necessary. Maybe Mavericks can still run it?!
A final note:
A Punk that steals software? Sure, I can see that. I may not like it, but at least it's consistent with the whole Anarchy anti-establishment thing.
A Punk that whines on a forum about not every capitalist company he ever bought a product from catering to his every need? Yeah, N O !
Have some dignity, ffs

Re: Question about Cracked Versions
It would stop on the system requirements for the software. If somebody’s still using Live 2 that’s completely fine. He’s got the license and he’s paying for software that should work forever. But that software working on every future and past versions of any OS is simply not part of the deal.TomViolenz wrote:A: is it really Abletons responsibility to keep 5 year old software up to date to run on even the newest OS?

Live 2 probably lists OS X 10.2 or 10.3 as compatible versions. Period. Beyond that it’s a gamble at best.
Re: Question about Cracked Versions
PDC is fixed in the cracked version.
