audio transpose in clip view: MIDI CC Range

Post by Chris J » Sat Aug 27, 2005 10:51 am

transpose of a selected audio clip through MIDI CC is excellent except it's really hard to transpose for one or 2 semi tones. You have to fiddle back and forth, and most of the time I can never get the value I want and do it with the keyboards arrows.

Hmmm... mine goes up one semitone for every click of the right/up arrow and down one semtone for every left/down click. And mouse dragging makes it easy to go from semitone to semitone without "overshooting".

If you don't need all +-48 semitones, change the min/max range in Live when you assign the MIDI controller.

+-12 is a lot less sensitive.

Allo ?
that's the point of my post, man : You can't and I'd like to !

You can only limit ranges to parameters that have an enveloppe, dixit Ableton.

Not true.

Click on the MIDI Map Mode Switch.

Click on the MIDI pitch device "pitch" knob.

Move your desired MIDI controller.

Type in your required min/max transposition values in the "Mapped to Channel/CC" window at the bottom of the screen.

please, lend me your very special version.

lend it to Ableton too who told me why there was no limit on transpose (see previous post)

seriously, thanks for trying to help, but check things first before being so sure.

This works for me.

CC109 now controls MIDI transposition from +-12 semitones.

ah ah ah ! I see, we're not talking about the same thing ! you're talking about midi transpose.

I mean the transpose you find in the clip view in the sample section. If you assign it to a CC, whatever (audio) clip is selected can have its transpose value changed this way, and in principle this is extremely usefull, but not in practice for small values.
Thanks for your time and sorry for past comment

Just set your MIDI controller's max and min CC values to 47 and 80 rather than 0 to 127 (or a narrower range if you want more control).

You can now MIDI control audio transposition +-12 semitones.

Yep,. I don't think I can change the values on my mk361c which I use in the studio (the uc33 is for my live sets)
Also I like to assign CC on the fly as my songs are never built in the same way, so I assign CCs whenever I need to, and I don't have that many CCs so I use them for other programs, that means one of the controlers would have to be assigned only to this.

To cut it short, I'd rather have a midi limit.

I'm trying with the uc 33 but don't manage. I thought you did that with the lsb msb values. But no. I probably need a midi prog in between.

again, as it costs nothing for me to ask : I'd rather have a midi limit.
