M4L device for programming the KingKORG?

Post by zerocrossing » Tue Mar 03, 2015 7:06 pm

I had a KingKORG a while ago. Loved it. Moved to a smaller place and had to get rid of some stuff. The KK's big and it's less than stellar keyboard (no aftertouch? WTF?) made it a no-go for using as a MIDI controller (instead of my Remote 61) so I sold it and funded a Virus Snow.

Now, I like the Snow a lot... but I miss the KingKORG. Still don't have space for it though... unless... I put it on a shelf that's mostly empty now, but too high to see or reach. This would only work if there was a software controller for it... which there isn't. Not a commercial one at least. Is this something that a M4L n00b might tackle? I'm semi literate at coding and Flash Actionscripting if that gives you an idea of my understand of deeper level computer technology. I mostly use Flash Actionscript to mock up user interfaces when I'm working, but I wouldn't dare try and code anything more complicated than that. Engineers usually look at my code and laugh and say, "Yeah, well I guess you might do it like that."

It depends: if the King Korg can be controlled nicely via standard CC data it's really easy, if you need to use SysEx for it, it becomes considerably more painful (you'll have to use one of the SysEx workarounds as Live sadly blocks SysEx data).

Best,
Christian

Thanks for that... from what I can tell from pgs. 35 and 36 of this:

It should work, though the Virtual Patching (setting up modulation routing) looks like it might be tricky. I wonder why no one's tried it yet? I guess my next steps are, decide if the Kingkorg is the right move for me. Thanks again for the help. I'm wondering if there's a templet somewhere I could use as a starting point? I should ping my friend Kristen. She makes a lot of devices in Max, mostly for granular synthesis. I bet this would be no sweat for her.

Ah, ok - this is really easy (if you are familiar with M4L).
Take a look at similar devices, e.g.
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... controller
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... rt-control
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... controller
etc.
Let me know if you need help…
Best,
C.
