Playback from Cursor Position in Sample Display/Editor

Post by ForestCat » Wed Mar 04, 2015 10:26 pm

Probably a dumb noob question, but I have searched diligently & find nothing on this.

In Session View:

In the Sample Display/Editor for an audio clip,
A). Left-clicking on the waveform causes a blinking orange(on my system)cursor line to appear.
B). Left-clicking and dragging over the waveform causes a cyan(on my system) selection to appear.

How do I:

1. Playback the clip from the cursor position in A) above?
2. Playback just the selection from B) above?

Not being able to do this while placing/auditioning warp markers, etc, is driving me nuts.

Thanks for any help.

You can play part of a clip (audio or Mini) by pressing the Shift key - the mouse pointer will turn into a speaker icon - and clicking the timeline at the top of the clip. So, for 1) just click above the orange line. As for 2) I don't think it's possible. Someone more expert might know better.

Thank you, Gary. I thought the speaker icon was fluky/inconsistent (based upon some googling, forum posts, etc.). What I realized is that that speaker icon playback function is tied to the Global Quantization value. As a result, if global quantization is enabled, the actual playback position can be VERY different from the actual cursor position, lol. Major gotcha for noobs like myself. Not documented anywhere I could find...

Control and space plays from cursor position in arrangement view clips (very useful inside long MIDI clips). Perhaps it also works in session clips?

You saved me a bunch of time Thank You So Much! :!: I was wondering why the hell I couldn't playback like I wanted to and also seen other people do it. You're right it's not documented much hence why I found your 4 year old thread that is still helping people out :D
