Anyone using AMD laptop with Live?

Post by Jos G » Sun Aug 28, 2005 5:26 pm

I've ordered an AMD 2800+ laptop, 526 RAM and 5400 rpm HD, because I really like my AMD desktop.

But this weekend I've read the Future Music feature about laptops and it said AMD laptops are new and it's unknown how they work with music.

Anyone having experiences with Live taking live with an AMD laptop. Because I wanna use it live. I'm a heavy user. Lot of tracks, mostly three send effects, some VSTi's and controller stuff.

My Pentium 800 is too slow for the job. I think it's the slow harddisk.

I think that's what ole' Forge is using. Search his screen name and send him a PM, I'm sure he'll give you the whole story...

i have that setup on my Acer aspire 1560 laptop. + i have Ati radeon 9600 graphic card in it (make sure you have external video card). everything works like a charm. i played a lot of live gigs with it, finished a couple of songs, i recently use it for recordings as well. don't worry, that's enough power to run Live.

I'm using Live iwth an almost identical setup. . . of course, I'm still teaching myself the software, coming over from Traktor Dj Studio. But it has worked well for that.

AMD Athlon 3000+
It's in a Compaq Presario R3240CA. Works fine for me. Generally, with Live 4 the AMD 64 chips were the top of the heap in the testing for price / performance ratio.

I have a 2 year old athlon2200 lap - not 64 just normal 32

I actually went most bang for buck from an office superstore and it's been totally reliable - any problems I've had have been user inflicted really!

I have a 3000+ HP laptop with internal soundcard.
Worked perfectly with Live 4, drop outs a gogo with live 5. Not using live 5 anymore until sorted.

Yeah, browsing the internet I discovered most articles and reports saying AMD laptop performance is unknown are from 2001-2002.

Thanx again for your reactions.

AMD processors are the fastest for Live. hands down.

fastest fastest fastest.
