Quiet but good fidelity monitors

Post by filter_7 » Mon Mar 23, 2015 10:25 am

I use headphones all the time, but now I feel some side effects of tiredness and headache that are a sign that I'm exaggerating a little...

What I would like to find are a pair of little/quiet / neighbors-friendly speakers to give a rest to my ears.

Would be nice to have a good fidelity at low volume; I don't need a high end solution for mixing with them, just listening to the track before the final touches with headphones.

Do you have any suggestion below 200 $/eur ?

Maybe the Alesis M1 active range would work for you, about the only thing I can think of in your price range.

Thanks, it's a very good suggestion.

If you got another advice out of my price range let me know.

KRK Rokit 5s are slightly over your budget but pretty good, lots of definition and clarity for the price. You can get better stuff like Adam and Genelec but they cost a lot more.

Just go to sweetwater or thomann and narrow your search to your price criteria and woofer diameter (3-5" - not sure how small you need them) - you will be left with only a handful of models (not many for this price range), so it will be easy and quick to compare them functionally, read some reviews and make a decision.

If you really want small, check out the Audioengine A2+. They are slightly above your stated budget, and they aren't marketed as "reference" monitors, but they sound great, especially at low volumes. I have two pairs--one for general listening in one room, and one in the music area so that I can work without giving the neighbors the Focals all the time.

They have a 30-day return policy, too.

Hope this helps expand your options a little.
